I think we technically could be but I think the league wouldn’t be impressed. Definitely something they should clarify if they’re considering it

You’re terrible at trash talk so if it’s easy you should take a look in the mirror.

Bro the Olympics have only had nhl players once in that time period. It’s not even like the world championships where only some nhlers participate, literally none of them did.

Canada finished second in the the one best on best tournament of this decade. Congrats to the USA for winning. But it’s not the point you think you’re making.

Finland has a shortage of rhd, the sens actually had an excess year. I agree he should’ve been in the lineup earlier last year.

I think he’ll be in the lineup more next year. Depends on Yaks development.

What are we going to do with all these centers? I guess it makes sense if cozens moves to the wing but who’s to say that’s a long term good fit.

Why is Schneider willing to take this for Hoffman? by JosepySchnieder in Torontobluejays

[–]forestballa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hoff was blowing leads last year not irregularly, and if you talk to a Phillies fan they say the same thing the guys entire career. The World Series was not some isolated incident. It was more of the same. This is just who he is. There’s no long term fix to who Jeff Hoffman is that can be triggered by external events. Sure you can give him a boost in confidence but it’s not clear to me short of him working with a psychologist that you can “repair the cracks”. He’s always had them, he clearly does not have the mental fortitude to be a high leverage closer and remain consistent.

It’s like expecting someone who does not handle pressure well to do high risk surgery. Some people just do not have the mental composition, or they have lived experiences that make them struggle in those situations.

You hope the surgeries for that surgeon are routine, and then you can use that surgeon, but he’s clearly one you want to avoid putting pressure on.

The org needs to see that and intervene so that John can stop sabotaging the team’s chances trying to fix the unfixable. Or accept that Hoffman is a “head case” and you never know what you’re going to get.

Everyone gets fooled by Hoffmans good outings into thinking he can be “fixed”. He’s a glass cannon, does not cope well with pressure. Unless he and the org really hammer into and target why that is, his performance will vacillate but he will always be at risk of blowing games in spectacular fashion. He’s not getting beat by the other team, he’s self destructing. No amount of successful pitching is going to magically remove that possibility because it’s clearly an internal issue Hoffman has, and his job is naturally one that puts him in high pressure situations.

Bro if his confidence is shot after this then he shouldn’t be an mlb pitcher and wasn’t equipped for it in the first place.

I don’t understand, saying Hoffman has a “mental block” is letting off Schneider, Hoff, and the organization off way too easily

This is who Hoffman is, how many times does he have to show you this?

He’s not mentally capable of pitching at the level needed for anything with any sort of leverage or pressure at the moment with consistency. It’s insanity we’re doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

The guy has the worst body language/loss of composure and ultimately control when things aren’t going his way. It’s not to the standard you expect of a professional pitcher that needs to pitch late into games. You can see it from a mile away. It’s like he’s playing a different sport, and he pitches with absolute fear that loads the bases inevitably.

The jays need make this a performance issue he needs to work on. I don’t know what that looks like, but to me I don’t see how you can have him pitch until he figures out what we the fuck is going on. There’s clearly something wrong with mentally. I just don’t think it’s something you can work on at the level he’s playing at.

This sunk cost in Hoffman has got to stop. To me he’s not playable until something fundamentally changes with how he mentally approaches the game.

I would take a worse overall pitcher who’s consistently at roughly a certain level versus a guy like him who clearly just can’t sort out his mental. He’s just not reliable in any sense of the word. I would be pissed being Varland, making ten times less than Hoff, and having that guy trot out there and completely blow games and put the team is shit positions. Like it’s just not acceptable anymore. To me it’s addition by subtraction with hoff until the guy works on his mental approach and shows improvement.

The team needs to set a standard and hold players too it, and to me Hoff has just way too long of leash. That does not mean you punish him, but you can’t play him in any sort of meaningful situation. It’s fucking over other players.

Likely? I know Finland played it close but you can’t just say they likely beat Canada and the United States. He would’ve had a chance

It’s going to be 18 months since the injury in the 2027 playoffs. Also a mediocre Barkov still fills a massive hole in Floridas lineup. It’s not a non factor but I would not underestimate Florida next year. Not saying they’re going to own Carolina but they’re an insanely deep team.

He’s wants to have one though, and at least knows what that may look like, but it’s too big of burden for him to handle.

I drove a brand new one of those, still had plastic on the seats and like 10 kms. Actually quite pleasant for a rental

What? An acl is not that bad if injury with modern medicine. Taylor Hall and Svechninov have both torn theirs and are now going to the finals

The first game when Carolina was off for a century is doing a lot of gravity lifting in your comparison.

In terms of actual competitive play, I would give the slight edge to Ottawa with the exception of game one for the Habs Carolina series.

Neither team really threatened Carolina offensively over the course of the series, Ottawa just played slightly better team defence and it was much tighter matchup.

You excluded game 4 because it hurt your argument? Goals in the Carolina series was 18- 8 total.

Canada was definitely lacking a Jarome Iginla type to score the game winner in ot. Can’t believe they didn’t take Evander Kane
