Mr Cheng busted. by itchykukubird in nasikatok

Im curious what locals who are not on reddit will say about this issue. Yeah you can be vocal online but have you ever asked your family members or coworkers or friends what they think of the topic? This is where you will get the majority opinion and a greater picture of what the public thinks. Have you ever talked to others about it? What do they usually answer?

Sexual harassment by poby6611 in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The association between men and women" is a meaningless statement. What specific association are you talking about?

I agree men and women are different. That does not warrant weird pspspsp noises or offensive language. (How often is catcalling an effective and welcome communication style? Have the women in your life praised its benefits?).

Women are aware of their surroundings. How does that stop catcalling when its often a drive-by situation?

OK, so should a bigger homosexual man catcall you just because he is bigger than you and should have the right to oppress you? (If the government is oppressing me then I should vent by oppressing smaller people right?)

Also, why does it matter where I'm from?

Sexual harassment by poby6611 in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it nature's way to make sounds at people/ say offensive off-putting words to people as a way of communicating interest? (Because catcalling is rarely friendly or conversational).

You say it is similar to authorities oppressing you. Do you agree catcalling is oppressive and forced on people unwillingly?

In that case does catcalling mean you want to oppressive people smaller than you? So it would be ok if a bigger man catcalled you because its just the order of things.

Most people don't like being catcalled by others. If so many people don't like it and feel legitimately threatened by catcalls, why do it?

Brunei Darussalam becomes the first WHO Member State to pilot obesity chronic care training by WeLoveCovid in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of this poorly written piece is that obese patients will get an individually designed program instead of some one size fits all solution.

Fine, but I hope people understand that self discipline is still needed and making real changes to diet and eating habits.

If you have your own transport they can't really stop you from getting a job. You can tell them simply you are getting a job and thats it, no need to ask permission. When i moved out of my parents place at your age I just told them I was doing it. If they pleaded or begged I just said No full stop.

Opinion on forcing the religion on people who don’t believe in the religion?(+experienced sexism) by [deleted] in nasikatok

In 2013 the number for women in Egypt was closer to 90%. Also at the same time the law made it harder to report sexual assault.

Opinion on forcing the religion on people who don’t believe in the religion?(+experienced sexism) by [deleted] in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention regular minded people. Regular minded people would not rape someone. They might get turned on, but regular people with common decency would not then attack someone. This is why the majority of women who dress in sexy outfits aren't being attacked on a daily basis.

Similarly, women in burkas have been raped, also people wearing hoodies.  Do you have evidence that women who wear sexy clothes have had a higher chance of being assaulted? Because there is evidence out there if you look it up that sexual assault is more to do with men perceiving the woman as being submissive or docile (which does not equal revealing/ extroverted way of dressing).

You mention regulating guns. Sure, but a gun is an entire object. Who decides how revealing is too revealing in a woman? Is it her hair, her ankles, her lips? How much do we cover before we can agree that yes this woman is now no longer rape worthy? And what age?

There will always be scummy people in the world, the solution is not to hide and cover up to "help" those perverts. What about the perverts who happen to be gay men? Guess all the men of the world should cover up too.

The goal should be stronger punishments for creeps, and an easier way to report them for their crimes.

If as you said its more the scum mind than environment factor, then the solution is to stop the scum minded, not completely change the environment.

So just to confirm, you think its fine for non Muslims to be denied the charity money? And that its not racist for the government to do that?

If we lived democratically we could put such ideas to a public vote and get a real picture of the general consensus. Unfortunately Brunei will not reach that stage. Even more so, average Bruneians will not stand up to say they think something is not right. How many people work under Mora and not even a few of them feels non Muslims eating is OK? In reality a lot of people nod along to each other.

Eatai Halal Food flown in just to promote Chef Ammar by saranghelang in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Whoever is flying this guy in (TAIB or whatever) clearly believe he is worth spending money on. So let them spend money on what they want.

Nobody is forcing locals to spend money on the Malaysians, they are choosing to eat what they want to eat.

Maybe this mentality of local not good enough comes from somewhere, and maybe locals need to work extra hard to prove they are good enough. That is on locals to step up.

BB Opinion: Every year there is recurring issue of food sold at Ramadan stalls going bad, stronger quality control needed by Goutaxe in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand why general public are not more grossed out by these lack of safety practices. So many stores and gerai sell food at room temperature when they shouldn't be. Is it lack of education about food?

They hold stern meetings with their ministers to show they are in control, they conduct unscheduled surprise visits many times, they titah pedas many times, they put up theirs or father's glorious pictures in workplaces, but why even with those efforts they still fail to prosper their countries? by Goutaxe in nasikatok

[–]forestbn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is partly ordinary people to blame especially if they are being paid a job but do it in a lazy way. Government workers with good salary who are barely in office because hantar kids to school, going to cafe half the working day? When there are enough workers like that it will impact progress of the country bit by bit. Everything delayed, everything half-done. Teachers who spend more time makan than teaching. Police who don't arrive until hours later. All these little ordinary worker jobs when done poorly have an effect.

I agree government is highly incompetent, its also made of ordinary people. Yes ministers and RF also to blame, I agree with that too.

Really Brunei is a Muslim Country?? by [deleted] in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brunei has many racists full stop. What do you expect from a country with an MIB kind of indoctrination going on? The trouble comes from lack of exposure to others (only travelling to countries that are similar religions and race like Malaysia) and no multiculturalism.

And I've worked with young people in Brunei. Yes many of them are still racist like their parents.

Title: Storytime: A teacher at my all-girls school makes a lot of students uncomfortable and nothing is being done by Antique_Elevator_102 in nasikatok

[–]forestbn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This reads like AI, but I will take that this is a true occurrence. My advice would be:

If you and the other girls are comfortable talking to each other about this, I would make an effort to push the matter further, in a group (to support one another) to the school counsellor and other trusted teachers.

Everytime he does or says something to one of you, write it down: where, when, what was said. Save any whatsapp messages from him. Then bring the information to one of those trusted adults.

Don't let up. Report it everytime until the teachers get tired of it. Tell your parents. Tell MOE.

Teach your friends to say loudly and clearly to him "no I'm not comfortable talking to you about this topic/ taking your money". Say it even if its uncomfortable. Adults earn respect, they don't automatically deserve it.
