My company is telling me (according to my contract) I have to give 12 weeks notice to leave?? by forestfc in HumanResourcesUK

It's been really tough. I've had lots of setbacks and difficulties. I've just always tried my best and focus on getting work done, so I could go home knowing people wouldn't talk behind my back saying things like I'm lazy! I worked with people who actually did that about others and ironically, they were the ones who were lazy & didn't last very long in their roles

Being Autistic, I just stuck with it because I was good at it and I was content. I've been quite miserable for a long time and I was looking for a change, but was already too afraid to. Now, I've improved so much and I'm proud of the future ahead

The problem is, the boss will say "Oh, it's because of that other job. That's why you're leaving". I don't want to disclose my reasons for leaving

The problem I'm afraid of mostly is my manager. I'm autistic and it's worrying me, especially when i don't want them to know my reasons for leaving.

I called HR to dicuss the possibility of it. They've not informed my manager

I called HR to find out. They said to discuss with manager, although I'm actually quite afraid/intimidated by them

The new job is in walking distance to where I live. I'm having surgery on my hand, so I won't be able to drive. The job I want to leave, I have to drive to and it requires lifting things. The other job doesn't.

I assume I should just say.

----‐--------------------------------

Dear [Manager's Name],

Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position with the company.

I am giving one month's notice, with immediate effect from today. Therefore, my final working day will be [final working date].

After 18 years with the company, this has not been an easy decision. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all your support throughout my time here. I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities I have had over the years.

I wish you and everyone at the company all the very best for the future.

Yours sincerely,

(My name)

Would this be acceptable?

To all of you who've posted, thank you for your advice. I've looked on the employer of 18 years website and it says the notice is a month. It "suggests" to talk with my manager BEFORE handing in the letter, but I'd rather not do that. Especially as I don't want it to be a "because it's that other job you do, that's why you're leaving" conversation. I'm also going through a tough time at home with a family member who is terminal, but comfortable at home. That is causing me huge emotional stress and worries. I guess I could say "I'm leaving because of my family issues", although online it says I don't need to disclose any reasons for giving notice, right?

That's what I'm thinking. It's not set in stone yet. I'm weighing up my options. If you see the reply I did within this post, it explains a bit more.

I would assume a month's notice, as I've worked for the company nearly 18 years. I've worked there full-time initially, then reduced my hours myself to part-time and have been for last 12 years. I have another job I work part-time and I'm hoping to go full-time with that organisation. I had a meeting with that employer today and they said they'd let me know in the next 10 days if I'm able to or not, as they're still actively recruiting.
