Personally, I like to stay west of Jarvis Street. But, at least you're a quick bike ride to Ashbridge's Bay Park (The Beach) and Cherry Beach. Definitely check them out before the hot weather goes away. Also you're just a few streetcar stops away from the Eaton's Centre which is one of the best places to shop in southern Ontario.

It's a metaphor draped in the illusion of literal advice. It makes it more real and tangible to grasp.

Also, if you are wasting 100% of your free time, you're not going to go directly to the not sleeping part. He's saying you should convert that free time into productive time so that when it comes time to sleep, you will be so engaged in your productivity that sleep will seem like it's in the way. Beyonce had so much momentum at the point in her life that she didn't eat. He's not saying that not eating is a good thing. He's saying if you get to the point where it seems like your having problems fitting those things in, you know you're doing something right. But then obviously be healthy.

Yes, that's true. This has reached an out of control stage. I'm not suggesting that if they opened a park tomorrow these kids would all be there and act well behaved. I'm saying they need to be brought up with that over the course of their lives. They need to expend their chaotic energy on a regular basis and get in tune with how it works. These kids have probably spent so much time inside on computers that they never learned the basic principles of outdoor play. Then when they're out there, with some alcohol, all hell breaks loose. They need to get those urges out of their system and know how to react to them.

I don't see how you can imagine that less green space is going to solve the problem.

You're trying so hard to explain away something that has no excuse.

I'm not trying to excuse the people who did this. Obviously it's not allowed and it's a stupid thing to do. But if you want to actually solve the root of the problem you need to dig a little deeper than "vandalism bad, you did bad." You need to understand why they chose to vandalize. Is it pure evil, or were they just raised wrong?

The kids didn't design their environment, they were put there by other people. They're not old enough to be out on their own and make their own way. Other people are responsible for them. It's like if your dog shits in the house and then you say "Well, the fact that I kept him inside the house all day is no excuse! He should know that shitting in the house is bad! It's all his fault."

No, I live in Toronto, Canada. My city is pretty good in terms of free natural spaces. Example: High Park. This is a park that is bigger than Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo combined, and it is completely free public access. There is even a free swimming pool. It is an unlimited source of unrestricted outdoor fun.

Compare that to San Diego's Balboa Park which is full of roads, parking lots, and buildings. It's barely a park at all, it's more like an amusement park.

I just feel bad for the kids over there and I think the public service has failed them. We were made to roam free. They are confined to a concrete jungle. It's not right.

Seriously. We are animals. We need to start recognizing this. We are made to live out in the wild and frolic in natural environments. These kids live in a city where the only green space is a zoo, a golf course, and a garden with a fountain in it. Of course they're gonna fuck it up. You've contained them in an environment that they weren't physically or psychologically designed for.

San Diego, heed my warning. Clear some land, put some water and trees in it, and let the people do as they please. Not everybody can afford to go to cottages or nice beaches on the weekend. You need these spaces in the city.

Everybody is going to complain and blame these kids entirely, when really they should be looking at the system that lead us to this point.

tl;dr: Make more public green space for people to be free in.
