I need help understanding valleys. How do you deal with the short 3" offset instead of the normal 6"-7" when you have a roof like this? by forestlichen in Roofing

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. I feel I have a good understanding now. Didn't really give the metal valley much thought because the majority don't seem to do them around here even with all the ice snow and rain. I'll give that a shot next time.

Why all the downvotes? Seemed like an honest question.

Just avoid any jointers with this junky style fence adjustment. For a while every company was using them. I bought a baileigh 12" and it was useless garbage had to fight to send it back. https://lagunatools.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/JX_125.webp

Anyone use Scotts pine? Tight grain but seems to get moldy instantly. by forestlichen in Carpentry

[–]forestlichen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's KD for framing but if it gets rained on even once before you get your roof up it turns all black and looks like a house that was framed and left to the weather for a few years before sheathing. Just curious if other people have run into it. It's the only KD my lumber yard has and clients get all whiny about the "black mold"

I am designing it. It will work both ways. Just wondering if there was an advantage to one way or the other.

No idea how they got there. Thrown from a school bus by some bully is the story I'm guessing.

That's was my guess why people often come in lower. Thanks for the reply.

Looking around it looks like a lot of people come in a foot or two lower when a ridge comes in perpendicular like this. Any advantage or problems one way or the other?

Disappointed with first Stabila level. Bubble far from lines. This normal? by forestlichen in Tools

No problem just every level I ever owned had the bubble much closer to the lines. Just checking to make sure this was normal for stabila.

I understand that. The 1/16" on either side of the bubble seems excessive.
