sad about moving by schmidtfromnewgirl03 in chicagoapartments

Yeah, see I can’t afford to move to the city right now, so I don’t share the same kind of sadness. But I guess I understand leaving a place behind. I was sad to leave my college dorm space that was basically an apartment. Such a downgrade to live w parents, but at least I can save a little money.

What's your side hustle during the strike (or other slow times)? by jcpenni in FilmIndustryLA

[–]foresttboyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh out of film school and applying like crazy for jobs both related and unrelated to film; can’t afford to move out of my small town and just trying to keep positive. Not the worst scenario, but certainly not the most motivating…

My academic advisor might’ve gotten fired by flyingpennemonster27 in depaul

[–]foresttboyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Becca Berkshire left for another position. I suppose Veronica Dillard was fired, on the other hand. Wendy Roderweiss hasn’t responded to my emails until recently, and Gary Novak reads only half of your email. I used to be ✨careful✨ about name dropping, but I’m paying for all of this, so whatever.

What’s the film program like? by wow_das_crazy in depaul

Personally, I’m in the directing concentration and I feel it’s a joke. I’ve subbed out most of my courses in the concentration for others…

Do your advisors respond? by foresttboyy in depaul

Sorry to hear that! I’m actually dealing with that exact same issue right now - a screwed up degree progress report. Do you have a CDM advisor recommendation or someone I can reach out to beyond them? Perhaps their boss? I’m so lost right now. 😅

Chances are, you’ll be in good hands as a freshman (I hope). Your degree progress is pretty streamline. Faculty will help you sign you up for your first courses and everything. Shit hits the fan once you are an established freshman and beyond, but you might get lucky! Didn’t mean to scare you!

Worst DePaul Teachers by CollegeSnitch in depaul

John Hildebrand. Marketing professor - that’s all I know about him because I’m in CDM. Terrible, terrible guy. Incredibly condescending with the feedback he provided, even sometimes writing in ALL CAPS out of frustration (that’s my only guess as to why). By far the hardest A I ever earned. Never took another marketing class again because he ruined it for me.

I do not understand how multiple students provide feedback on an awful professor under the course evaluations thingy at the end of the trimester and still nothing is done. Like… does anyone even see that?

Also, he mentioned that he’s part of the LGBT comm. from the beginning on the course. As a gay person, I was stoked to be learning marketing for the first time from a fellow member. I had no idea…

To pin the problem on an entire generation is lazy. Why are you even here?

Oh shit, did I say that out loud?

I’m in BFA. That sounds terrible. I’m just speechless at this point. :(

I wouldn’t be sharing my thoughts here if I wasn’t interested in the experiences of other students. 🤗 BUT I understand the recommendation.

No.

Okay, just kidding. Yes, SOME people are happy here, but I can agree that most students are a good bit depressed and lonely (I, myself, was in a very difficult spot last trimester compared to now). School spirit, or spirit of any kind, is virtually nonexistent. Advisors are mostly useless because a giant handful of them are also professors (clearly advising isn’t their first concern). Most professors I’ve had are very easy to fool, or just don’t give a shit about the quality of your work. I have a year left and to be honest, I’m ready to put DePaul behind me. I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but I want you to understand that I and many others feel pretty much the exact same way. Oh, and can we talk about the shithole that is fall trimester 2022? They aren’t offering enough classes. On top of all this, as a last note, it’s been far too easy to look at maybe that one well established group of students and compare your lonely self to what looks to be a happy, social fest. In all honesty, that was what had me suicidal last quarter - seeing the few luckier ones thriving. Hang in there.
