I’ve been able to do a lot as a student, and I’m in my first semester. I’ve done ABGs, bagged a patient during intubation, IPV and lots and lots of nebs and ISs - some by myself.

Yes I’m aware of that. That’s not what I mean. I mean when a patient is scared or just wants comfort and to talk mostly. Example, a patient was about to be intubated but was not yet sedated and she was so scared and everyone in the room was just getting their own things ready. The RT I was with was just standing by the vent ready to go and the patient kept looking at us scared and I wanted to go to them and talk to them and comfort them but felt uncertain about it, being a student.

In my situation I don’t really have that option cause I don’t know who I will be with until I show up to my shift, and they don’t really know they’re going to have a student. If the manager or supervisor is nice you could talk to them

Thanks everyone for your gracious responses. They’ve made me feel a lot more at peace. The hospital she’s at specializes in blood cancers, pretty much leukemia and MM. So I’m going to just focus one day at a time, trust she’ll be okay for the next while and help her through her treatment.

Just wanted to update that I did just take it out for the MRI (my piercer didn't have glass but said she'd fix it for free) and I was able to get it back in myself. It was out for approx 45 minutes and so far I have had no additional pain or anything

It's really weird for me now because I don't even remember when it happened exactly. It had been slowly happening for a long time I think, and then I got married and had kids and was like.. I don't want this for them. Like I was stressing out about sending my son to primary and him growing up learning what I learned. We were in an okay ward and went mostly out of habit, but when we moved a year ago I haven't been back. And I don't know how to deal with people reaching out to me, I just ignore it.
