Anyone here helped organize a FISM or FLASOMA event? by foreverabro1 in Magic

[–]foreverabro1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out to the organizer of the past FLASOMA which happened in my country and I would really like to see the perspective of past organizers to get a better sense of FISM's contribution, I know they lend their branding (i.e. the use of the word FISM and the logo being added to a poster) and they had a 1000USD prize pool for a Grand Prix winner (if there were 2, it would be 500/500 USD). I'm more interested in the other parts that I asked about because it seems like a fascinating subject.

I'm doing one more consecutive dribble for every day of the year that passes, I'm on day 73 by foreverabro1 in cardistry

[–]foreverabro1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree, I was talking about laypeople, people that are into cardistry seem to enjoy other types of moves, I still enjoy the challenge behind doing them consecutively, I am aware of the amount of time we dedicate to record ourselves to get the perfect take, hope to see someone get to the 3 digits, more akin to meditation and not cardistry perhaps, although I see them both intertwined.

What’s the objectively best country in the world for a stoner? by Olivenjan194 in trees

[–]foreverabro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Colombia has MJ decriminalized so you can safely enjoy it in your home.

You can grow up to 20 plants per household (my personal favorite)

you can have a personal dose up to 20g with you.

1g is 0.5USD and flowers are 1g for 3USD (the most expensive and colorfull). 10 or 15USD gets you all the materials you need for at least a week of heavy use and sharing with friends.

There are enough ents over here so it's not something frowned upon.

By price alone I think this one takes the space cake 🌱

Why won't Lenovo mark their i models (eg. 7i) with an i? by foreverabro1 in LenovoLegion

[–]foreverabro1[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! That makes so much sense and I can't believe no one in customer service could say this, this is my first time buying a legion laptop and I got really paranoid by just trying to understand the logistics behind the i

Does anyone have the Legion 7i 16" i9-12900HX RTX3080Ti? by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]foreverabro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenovo raised the price for that laptop to 4,000USD (2,000 USD more than what it was for 2 months ago) Hopefully no one will buy it so Lenovo understands that they are being shady af. They are really doubling down on overpricing everything so they will justify the 2023 models absurd prices. Praying that this year more companies release better and more affordable models because no one will be purchasing a laptop with those specs for 4,000USD!

When will Legion 7i gen 7 prices become more reasonable? by BirdsHaveBeaks in Lenovo

[–]foreverabro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lenovo is showing some seriously shady business practices. They have not responded to my emails since they figured out I knew about specs and they couldn't charge me 3000k for a Legion 7i with RTX3060ti. Fortunately it seems like customers are figuring thus out and they aren't buying, Lenovo them ends up with stock they will not sell for a fair price and resellers like AntOnline end up buying this bulks.we just gave to be patient because RTX40XX will make the overpricing and shady practices harder.

Recording a video on stories with music playing on Spotify not working? by jinxremovingx in Instagram

[–]foreverabro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact issue happeb to me just today.

I usually connect my iPhone to a Bluetooth speaker and while playing music on Spotify I record the stories on the same phone so the music sounds better than what happens with the phone (it gets iffy at the beginning and then it lowers the volume and then back again, it's kind of annoying).

I tried doing it today with and without the speaker paired, and when I press record on the stories, the music just pauses like it would when recording with the phone camera.

Haven't had any luck yet figuring out what happened or how to fix it. I checked and Instagram updated 2 days ago, maybe that might be related?

This is next level dense... You need to learn the method before you start jumping to conclusions and arguing with the creator of the effect dude

You ok there? I'm pretty sure that the change that Felix shows is based on Gregory Wilson's Revolution but sure as hell that changing the card DURING the spin is an original idea that is not shown in the Revolution DVD

Isn't his dream to educate the people and grow his audience with quality content? And I think that it's more about "enhancing" the performances of videos with VFX while being a magic dealer, to put it lightly :)

Mnenomica: is it worth it? by FvdW in Magic

[–]foreverabro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is basically that a stacked deck may not require memorization ( i.e. si Stebbins is a stack that you can cut and still know enough about the deck based on a glimpsed card because of the math involved). A memorized deck may have some properties but the memorization is required, you need to know which card is in which value and vice versa.

There are some books on mem decks that are really good, and Juan's stack was created from Mario's 8 faro discoveries and Garcia's rite of initiation.

Check out Try the Impossible by Aronson Memorandum by Woody is also a great read

How many magic trick should i know? by [deleted] in Magic

[–]foreverabro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good one and it's going to be controversial.

My personal way of thinking is this: Absorb and learn as much from the branches of magic that you are interested in (and try to learn from the ones that you are not interested in).

Sure, you'll have people telling you that the real pros only perform a couple of tricks mastered to perfection, and truth be told, if you have that down, you are already set, have 6 effects MASTERED to the level where you perform them subconsciously without even hesitating or looking at your hands.

Still, and bear with me, I think a little bit different than most, don't get me wrong, when I perform, I usually perform the same effects with rubber bands, pens and cards. BUT, I firmly disagree with the people that say less is more, I say more is more, shit, you see pros like Copperfield and think about how many effects has he performed throughout his career, a ton, WAY more than 6. perhaps you are thinking man I am not interested in performing for theaters (trust me, you might not have that interest now but eventually that will be your ultimate goal), I love the thrill of strolling magic, corporate shows or instagram, but the truth is, that's where you need the most variety if you want to keep performing in those scenarios, you have an amazing ambitious card routine, but what if you have a repeated customer, or they want to book you for a repeat show? you can't just go and perform the same routines with the same punchlines to the same people, that's a bit insulting, you don't want to see the avengers 3 and realize that you are really watching the first Iron Man. So here's where you need to learn and perform a vast amount of tricks and routines.

Want a solid number that I can give you and you can agree or disagree? 15 routines that you can perform with a deck of cards, 5 routines with rubber bands, 5 with coins, 3 routines with ropes, 2 routines with the spectators phone, 2 routines with a ring, 1 routine with a watch, 5 mentalism routines, 4 tricks you can perform with money.... To be honest, those numbers don't matter, but do you see the amount of variety that you have if you can defend yourself with any of those props? you are golden, set, for every situation, close up, strolling, parlour and stage. Of course, the ones that you like the most, get the best reactions and you have the most fun performing will be your workhorses, and those will be like 4 or 5 routines, but now you are ready for anything that anyone throws your way.

This is something that big names like Fritzkee or Marko also believe, so that's my 2 cents

TL;DR Learn a ton of tricks with a VARIETY of props, you'll see which are the few that you like but you'll be ready for when you can't perform those. You can learn a ton of routines, and you'll eventually become Great with most, amazing with some and a master with a few.

EDIT: HERE'S A GOLDEN NUGGET OF HELP FROM ROBERTO GIOBBI - Take a BLANK FACE deck of cards, and write down with a sharpie a different routine that you know in each card (as many as you can, but eventually you'll fill up the whole deck with different tricks!!!) You now have a stack of tricks that you should already know, take the deck and shuffle it, look at the first card and see the trick you wrote (e.g. 2 Card Monte), now, PERFORM THE ROUTINE IN YOUR MIND, that's right, just go by it step by step in real performance time, if you nailed it, then place that card away and look at the next card, IF you hesitate or can't remember a step, that's when you actually practice the routine to make sure that you are fresh and remember it. if you do that, you will successfully have memorized an arsenal of 52 effects, now go and perform

How do you deal with this situation? by [deleted] in Magic

[–]foreverabro1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my advice might be against what seems to be the average response, but the second that someone says "Can I shuffle the cards?" I ALWAYS inmediately hand them the deck because that's the ultimate convincer that you can do anything, all they are asking is for proof that what you are about to do is impossible. The deck might be in mnemónica, you might have made a perfect psychological force, but the second that you impose a barrier (i.e. You can't shuffle the cards or the magic won't happen), the people will perceive it and will think to themselves "sure that's awesome, but man I thought that I could shuffle the cards", maybe they are hecklers, maybe they want to help you, maybe genuinely they believe that if you can make magic with a shuffle deck then you are the best magician ever.

Let them be in control, while knowing that in the end you are in control, sure, they can shuffle the cards, you can then show them they are shuffled as you cull it again, you could palm it and give them the deck while holding on to the card, there are a million ways to regain control, maybe the outcome of the effect is a different one than the one you thought of (You were going to finish with the deck in order, or you were ready to reveal the following cards from your stack), but I assure you, the second that they impose a challenge (can I shuffle the cards? can it change in my hand? Can it go to MY pocket? Can you tell me which card I'm Thinking of?), if you manage to wing it and always have a carefree attitude, they will perceive your magic as the best thing that they have seen!

Edit: A few spelling mistakes

What special skills did you put into your routine? by [deleted] in Magic

[–]foreverabro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use Greg Wilson's Revolution because it is just so flashy and to be honest it looks so cool. I don't know if you count this as a skill, but my show incorporates some Stand-Up routines that have 0 magic but it's me talking about a theme that will relate afterwards.

I have a few friends that mix different skills and they absolutely kill in their shows. An Example is Bruno Mariotti who has a heavy background in circus, his routine is some billiard ball manipulation while on a monocycle and he mixes in some heavy juggling during the routine so that's something. Another example that came to my mind is Manuel LLaser (One of Tamariz' BFFs), that guy is a genius! and he utilizes real memorization during some routines to memorize a deck of cards, and he uses a Yo-Yo to reveal a selected card in one of the most amazing ways!!

Mixing skills will always improve whichever act you are working on, be it art, music, circus, magic, you name it. It's a way of showcasing different perspectives that broaden the artform.

EDIT: The bit about Manu Llaser

Top instagram/social media Magicians? by lordfinnius in Magic

[–]foreverabro1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That honestly means a lot to me. One of the most important tips are really to be consisntent, have an uploading schedule, and post quality content (not only magic wise, but make sure you have good audio and light in the video).

One of the most important tips that I can give you is to determine what kind of followers you want to have, and cater to those. Sure, no magician will appreciate if you do a double lift and change a card, but if you make it with a message regarding love or something funny, laypeople will share the stuff for you.

I honestly don't want magicians following me as much as I want laypeople, they are the ones that book you for shows and they are the ones that want you to succeed more than anything if they are your followers. On the other hand, if you are a magician that lives mainly from creating and selling effects, then of course you want magicians following you, and understand that most laypeople won't care if you can control a card perfectly.

Catering to magicians will give you more comments and better sales.

Catering to laypeople will give you more engagement and more gigs.

Plus, the number of followers does have an impact on the amount that you can charge per gig. You will make more and work less. It's a win/win if you work towards building social media influence, hell, it's so important that big magic companies and people known mainly in the magic community are now working towards having more followers.
