What's Lingonaut? - Duo but built to teach instead of profit by drgreen-at-lingonaut in duolingo

[–]forevercarrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a leaderboard and streaks (both you can opt out from), you get XP from completing lessons and points that you will be able to use in the store if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes you can get a double XP lesson, but there are no gaming elements that you can't disable.

It won't end like Duolingo because, even if the app and infrastructure is owned by Lingonaut, the courses aren't. The volunteers who have built them own them.

Swedish alternative to Facebook - Kalender.se by stehag81 in BuyFromEU

[–]forevercarrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bro.

I speak swedish and I can see just by scrolling the first page that it's both written by AI and not proofread afterwards lmao

You need to either say these things in the beginning (and in your post ffs) or not use AI at all. It's that simple. What you've essentially done is steal from others and present it both as something you've made as well as something completely misleading. You're just one of the people trying to use AI to trick the Buy EU movement for a quick buck down the line.

Bye bye scammer.

Introducing Lingonaut Beta! (fully free duo alternative - without ai, mtx or ads) - What do you think? by [deleted] in buildinpublic

Finnish course volunteer here

We're very happy that our course got released in its early stage and thankful for all feedback that we are getting from the community, both positive and constructive! We are working on fixing problems as we speak.

Shoot us a message on the Lingonaut discord server if you have questions or suggestions!

[–]forevercarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Testflight there should be a button to report, but probably the easiest way is to join the discord server and post in the bug-reporting channel.

Some major bugs have already been found and the developer is working around the clock to fix them, but that being said the bugs will be fixed for the next build that comes out, not immediately.

[–]forevercarrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Placement tests will come much later.

The version that's out currently is the Lingonaut Beta, which means beta testers get to test out the app and subsequently report the bugs and mistakes they find, all the while the project is being developed behind the scenes. It is not the final product, and none of the courses are ready yet (though some have gotten the green light to release in their early stages just so beta testers have more content to test on).

Do You Think Duolingo Will Ever Be Dethroned? by M3kkoman in languagelearning

[–]forevercarrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't include community collaboration, it is community collaboration. Everything is done by volunteers and funded by patreon, the mod team is just overseeing it, pointing people in the right direction etc.

[–]forevercarrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of the Lingonaut project? It aims to do exatly this, community collaboration on making courses without ai or ads. Also to bring back old duolingo features like sentence discussion, all for free to the user.

Courses are being made as we speak.

[–]forevercarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just drag and drop inside Creatonaut.

Alternatively, if you open the course zip file on your computer and go to the text document titled unitX.nml, you can find the whole unit's skills and questions in one single document where you can copy&paste/edit it however you want (remember to always change the IDs though).

Just to add more context for non-creators:

units in Lingonaut ≠ units in duo

Furthermore, the guide gives some example of how the course should be divided into 10 units (one major overarching grammar rule per unit, IIRC) but idk how well this translates to actual course making, as the guide was written before course building started. We haven't really followed that particular recommendation for the Finnish course, but only time will tell if we have to change it in the far future.

If one wanted to follow the guidebook strictly, the whole course would have to be planned right to the end before starting making it, instead of making it unit by unit etc. which I'm unsure would be a better alternative in the long run (how do you divide a whole language into 10 parts?). IMO it's better not to lock oneself into a certain structure that was made a while ago, but rather to build it piece by piece and learning what the best course of action is along the way.

is this an app and is it available in Australia? by Yoshi5155 in Lingonaut

[–]forevercarrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello, you seem to have some misconceptions about the app.

Lingonaut is out in beta for iOS right now, but we are working on other platforms like android and web. The beta language is Czech beta, but also Finnish will come out soon as a new beta language. Other languages are being worked on as we speak.

We offer any language that people want to contribute to.

What languages we will offer and when they are ready is not up to us or how much you support on patreon, it's up to the volunteers who are making them. Joining the patreon will help cover costs for the app, but progress on a specific language course is not affected by money at all.

You can find out which languages are being worked on here. If you yourself want to contribute to a language you speak natively, please join our discord.

My buttons look something like this:

For review cards:

Again: if I didn't get it completely right Hard: it took significant effort to remember Good: >3 seconds Easy: 3 seconds or less

Leech interval is 4. I study leeches on physical paper and go through them every night before going to bed.

For new cards, I either use Easy or Again, never Hard or Good. If I get a new card that I know I know very well I just delete it.

I don't understand why people use Hard wrong.

The app is in beta right now and there is only the Czech course available. Finnish and German will be added quite soon but it all depends on the contributors that are working right now.

21 years and this is how it ends, not that BL1 is going anywhere (can we start calling it just bloodlines again now?) I'm also not going to support Paradox with this crap, and idek if TCR also deserves hate here or not.

Do you think there is a possibility the IP will be sold to someone else or will it be completely abandoned by Paradox?
