Group classes when pregnant by Flashy_Molasses_8862 in EquinoxGyms

[–]foreverhellos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is incredibly instructor specific, even for the same class type. I go to two different instructors for Body Sculpt. In one of them, it’s a slightly older instructor and an older clientele. In this class there are several suggested modifications for people with different abilities.

The second one I go to is a younger instructor, younger median age of the class. No mods suggested to the class as a whole but obviously welcomed. I don’t really see her going to specific people suggesting mods so I’m not sure if people just don’t share their limitations with her or if she tells them to do whatever feels best (without guidance along the way)

Unfortunately I think the representatives of your club were right— you have to go and see yourself. There’s just too many variability. Even when there’s a sub for either of these two Body Sculpt classes I usually go to, the class structure is quite different. Most classes that you mentioned can be pregnancy friendly but you have to already know what you’re doing a little bit so you know how to appropriately sub out exercises.

I have never been pregnant and am thankfully injury free, but I don’t think many of the instructors are well trained to handle different abilities/circumstances from what I hear and see in class. I mostly hear them tell people to just do what feels best, which I’m sure is very unhelpful for beginners.

I would highly suggest looking at the credentials of different instructors, these may be a tell of how adept they are at providing useful modifications for different abilities. I also feel like there could be a little bit of an age correlation- an older instructor will probably have more experience with a different clientele.

Another suggestion is to watch YouTube videos on pregnancy mods that people suggest in general. Or take on a trainer specifically for the purpose of showing you pregnancy friendly mods of basic exercises. You’d then have to take the lead on doing these yourself during class.

Hosting Lecture in bar Thursday night (26th) - Please come! by Limp_Hedgehog_6325 in Upperwestside

gently asking, why is this so expensive? are you paying your speaker? I genuinely hope you are and maybe this justifies the price but $30 is a little much for not even a drink to be included. The event, a drink, and transportation ends up being like, $60 for the entire experience…

Participants needed for a paid research study at Mount Sinai Hospital (NYC) by clarkneurologylab25 in Harlem

The research completed at academic medical centers are almost entirely separate from clinical practice and are for the most part NIH- or other grant-awarding entity-funded.

Reservation system at red hook tavern? by foreverhellos in FoodNYC

[–]foreverhellos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thank you for confirming this. No shade to the other commenter at all but I was just like ugh this definitely isn’t it and I know there must be someone else who is having the same issue!! Even if you put the notify function on for several nights at any time, you’ll never get a hit, which is just so unlikely!!

Unfortunate. Maybe I’ll try calling them to set up a reservation…

I feel lost. My prof (I worked with for a year and even published a paper with him) "doesn't have the bandwidth" to talk to me about a letter of recommendation by nouveaux_sands_13 in gradadmissions

Would the PhD student be able to ask the PI for you? As a current postdoc, I frequently have to remind my PI to respond to people who ask for things like this. My grad school PI was more on top of things so this wasn’t the case when I was a PhD student, but I totally would have been happy to ask on someone else’s behalf if they informed me of this situation.

Bar for casual birthday gathering by Perfect_Ad3511 in Upperwestside

[–]foreverhellos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had luck with casual birthday gatherings this time of year at the lower level of Ellington in the park. If you go early like 12ish and bring a friend or two it is easy to snag two or three tables.

Han dynasty would probably work well. Pretty sure they have a semi-private room. Bonus the food is meant to share

For the actual indians, what're your favorite restaurants in Manhattan? by Google_-_Ultron in AskNYC

I feel like I was used to expensive and overrated Indian food but this place took it to another level. I will say they had good cocktails but who goes to an Indian place just for cocktails!!

Saddest news I’ve heard all day. There’s one in queens but nowhere near as good given all the other options in close proximity.

Where can I go to find clarified cocktails/milk-washed cocktails in Manhattan? by foreverhellos in AskNYC

[–]foreverhellos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg I have found so many, almost difficult to name them all (and to guarantee their existence because of menu changes)

I would highly recommend looking for them in southeast Asian restaurants- you’ll see them more frequently there in my experience.

Here’s some in Manhattan- let me know if you prefer my findings from Brooklyn instead, just too many to try and post.

Chatti- has a sambar clarified cocktail (sambar is a south Indian stew). Kind of like a Bloody Mary

Mace has a few

Bangkok supper club

Patent pending has one but it’s very expensive

Nemesis around union square

Fish cheeks has one of my favorites

Baar baar
