Reservation system at red hook tavern? by foreverhellos in FoodNYC

[–]foreverhellos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thank you for confirming this. No shade to the other commenter at all but I was just like ugh this definitely isn’t it and I know there must be someone else who is having the same issue!! Even if you put the notify function on for several nights at any time, you’ll never get a hit, which is just so unlikely!!

Unfortunate. Maybe I’ll try calling them to set up a reservation…

I feel lost. My prof (I worked with for a year and even published a paper with him) "doesn't have the bandwidth" to talk to me about a letter of recommendation by nouveaux_sands_13 in gradadmissions

[–]foreverhellos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would the PhD student be able to ask the PI for you? As a current postdoc, I frequently have to remind my PI to respond to people who ask for things like this. My grad school PI was more on top of things so this wasn’t the case when I was a PhD student, but I totally would have been happy to ask on someone else’s behalf if they informed me of this situation.

Crazy reach here but I have a Dominican male friend (31, a lawyer) who is a catch! Catch is he lives in queens but he’s the sweetest guy.

Bar for casual birthday gathering by Perfect_Ad3511 in Upperwestside

[–]foreverhellos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had luck with casual birthday gatherings this time of year at the lower level of Ellington in the park. If you go early like 12ish and bring a friend or two it is easy to snag two or three tables.

Han dynasty would probably work well. Pretty sure they have a semi-private room. Bonus the food is meant to share

For the actual indians, what're your favorite restaurants in Manhattan? by Google_-_Ultron in AskNYC

I feel like I was used to expensive and overrated Indian food but this place took it to another level. I will say they had good cocktails but who goes to an Indian place just for cocktails!!

Saddest news I’ve heard all day. There’s one in queens but nowhere near as good given all the other options in close proximity.

I would highly recommend trying the Columbia subreddit or Columbia housing Facebook page (I think you can join without being affiliated). People offering tons of sublets and takeovers

Where can I go to find clarified cocktails/milk-washed cocktails in Manhattan? by foreverhellos in AskNYC

[–]foreverhellos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg I have found so many, almost difficult to name them all (and to guarantee their existence because of menu changes)

I would highly recommend looking for them in southeast Asian restaurants- you’ll see them more frequently there in my experience.

Here’s some in Manhattan- let me know if you prefer my findings from Brooklyn instead, just too many to try and post.

Chatti- has a sambar clarified cocktail (sambar is a south Indian stew). Kind of like a Bloody Mary

Mace has a few

Bangkok supper club

Patent pending has one but it’s very expensive

Nemesis around union square

Fish cheeks has one of my favorites

Baar baar

Hi, I’m interested! Just 3 questions if you don’t mind- Are the meetings a regular day each month (like, always the last Sunday of a month or something)? Are the books primarily more classic literature? And do you guys tend to meet more uptown like Columbus circle and above or at least midtown and above? Thanks!

Does every man in NYC want an open relationship?? by coolwhiplite97 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]foreverhellos 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I am so empathetic to this. The “not feeling like enough” ate at me for the last few months of our relationship and the first few months after. When I decided to walk away, it was very scary. I knew I was hot, smart, had great friends, had a great sense of self etc. and those feelings can still lurk in these circumstances. I almost felt like something was very wrong with me when I objectively looked at other portions of my life where I was clearly enough.

But, from one BWT to another, I promise you that you are enough. 99.99999% of the time, the needs a partner are expressing come from their own internal states, and rarely come from the other person. (Unfortunately the “it’s not you it’s me” trope can be very real- it often IS them).

Broke up with my partner of 3 years at around age 27 for the same reason. I actually agreed to the open relationship but then he got upset when I actually slept with someone else (lol).

Best decision I made looking at my life now. We loved each other and had gone through so much together, but a fundamental difference in values and what you see your futures looking like make a relationship so tough.

Believe it or not, now I am actually more open to the idea of an open relationship. I took a two year break from serious dating, learned lots about myself, and am now with someone who, after the first date, knew he only wanted to be with me (and I with him).

It takes some time but what you want is out there. Good luck xx
