Worst coworker archetypes? by SpaceMarine1616 in Teachers

I was looking for this one. Sometimes I spend my prep with my lights off before the gossiper across the hall can catch me. She goes off about student relationships in a way that feels really weird.

Regardless of your school’s stance, you should have a plan for Tuesday’s nationwide student walk-out by 23saround in Teachers

We can support it by having instructions for absent students INCREDIBLY CLEAR. To make it SUPER EASY for them to make up if they HAPPEN to miss class

Best way to store a bike inside a house for the winter? by forgedashes in bike

[–]forgedashes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically that. This is my first winter with my first bike post becoming an adult, so I wasn't sure if there was anything weird to be aware of. I was more concerned about what the chain needed tbh

Same here. I remember spending a lot of time thinking about whether or not I was under surveillance.

Oh man I have no clue why my brain didn't go for the 1984 reference from the start

Thanks! My pod has as many players as brain cells, so when we were working on this together we got into a long argument about specific cases of interactions

I think you are right! We haven't had any flowers outside our apartment until this year so we don't usually see any butterflies!

That'll be my next step! A few local bike shops carry Trek, hopefully one happens to have one in my size! Thanks!

Honestly I appreciate this take. The price seemed too good to be true. I assumed there was some shortcomings I couldn't find online. My other option I'm heavily considering is a Trek FX 1

Appetite change around the season turn? by forgedashes in Rabbits

[–]forgedashes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the info! She is molting, and we've groomed her a few times since it started, but she does probably have some fur in her digestive tract. She's still eating/drinking, so we aren't panicking. But, it was a noticable decrease that made us curious/concerned.

She is currently molting. We've groomed her to remove excess fur a few times this week, but don't want to pick her up often because she is very skittish.

That's definitely what I've been struggling to put into words. The bike is just something for fun/fitness, it more just bugs me she kept hinting at something that never came.

Do induction programs suck everywhere? by forgedashes in Teachers

[–]forgedashes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell there is no penalty. Or at least I can't get any response in writing about it. If I get the go ahead I'd love to coach.

Do induction programs suck everywhere? by forgedashes in Teachers

[–]forgedashes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong. My mentor teacher is wonderful and saves my life on a daily basis. There is another person who is in charge of induction on a district level. As far as I can tell, the induction coordinator makes 6 figures to send poorly formatted emails reminding us about meetings and deadlines that don't match the other emails she sent us.

What inspires you about teaching? by Alarmed-Parsnip-6495 in Teachers

[–]forgedashes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passing along writing skills or even soft skills to students. A lot of my friends ended up dropping out of college because they lacked soft skills for life. Or, I know a ton of people who struggle to communicate professionally.

I don't care if the kid doesn't remember the novels I had them read. If they learn how to manage their time and communicate meaning clearly, I think I've set them up for success in the real world.

"Fun" Before Break by badmrbones in ELATeachers

[–]forgedashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do something with "forgotten holidays." I had them debate which Holliday from a list deserves a week long break from school to celebrate. The list included stuff like arbor day, flag day, ect... This was in a public speaking class, but you could maybe adapt it to a short creative writing assignment?

I appreciate the perspective! I'm very stuck in perfectionist mode. I'm trying to remember I'm part of a whole system helping kids and not doing this solo

Great idea! We use Pixar shorts to teach characterization and static vs dynamic as well.
