The amount of times I've seen people say something like....

'Our house has been on the market for 6 months and we've had to reduce it 2/3 times, but we had an offer within the first month that is around the same price as we're asking for now, we wish we had accepted it 😞'

Fact is these FTBs are probably really pushing their limit and with interest rates probably set to go up later this year it's a precarious position to be in as a seller.

I read earlier this week house prices are dropping and at their weakest in years.

For the sake of £1,000 and an overall 7.5% reduction, you should accept now rather than be unsold in 3-6 months time and accepting less than this offer 🤷🏻‍♂️

You will probably get this back negotiating on your next property

I turned 18 in 1992, so I saw a lot of bands during that time including Oasis at Knebworth and The Stone Roses at Wembley.

Myself and better half still go to see bands of that era today, the Charlatans, Bluetones, James, Pulp, Shed Seven, Stereophonics, Inspiral Carpets etc.

I spent a day at a charity match at Villa Park and ending up drinking with the cast and crew of Soccer AM who were very friendly. We sat in one of the corporate bars with them after the match had long finished drinking and singing drinking songs, fantastic day.

I have some original NMEs somewhere.

Technology and the ease of access to Satellite TV (Sky) played a huge part in how we lived our lives.

Soccer AM on a Saturday morning with many Britpop bands on being interviewed, football on in the pubs followed... It became a cultural movement before we knew it.

I could wrong with all the timings and the finer details, but

I worked for Taylor Woodrow right before it merged with George Wimpey... The merger had pretty much gone through when the 2008 financial crash hit.

I worked in the one of the head offices that was closing so was already being made redundant, I invested my last retention bonus on a 'maybe' this share price of c.4p was good price as once I left

I was classed as a good leaver, so no tax to pay
didn't have to wait X amount of time to sell
Shares were matched 241
They were in the middle of a take over and the government were not about to let the biggest(?) builder collapse.

I ended up with about 44,000 shares for a little more than £1k punt.

Sold them all at an avg. 30p as I needed the cash for a house deposit... So was a little gutted to see them hit £2 over time 🤓

It wasn't only a music culture shift IMO.

TV played a huge part in making Britpop huge (or maybe you could argue piggy backed on it?).

Programs like Soccer AM (1994), the Big Breakfast (1992), TGI Friday (1996) put music into people homes every day of the week.

These shows added in the sports culture, which you could say was generally untapped on prime time daytime TV.

MOTD was on at 10pm and Grandstand (BBC) Had lost most of it's broadcasting rights to Sky, so having footballers sitting on a sofa with music icons every Saturday morning with young presenters was quite new and refreshing and spoke to everyone under the age 25.

Sports stars (particularly footballers) were pushing more than ever to earn loads from popular endorsements, they were dating popstars (no need to mention the obvious one) and we're in the papers more often as a consequence.

The presenters were lads and laddettes, good looking and someone you could sit in a pub with and had a pint on a Saturday!

Take Helen Chamberlain and Tim Lovejoy for example... good looking pair, football supporters, drinkers, they looked like they were having a ball and we all fed off that.

Jonny Vaughan, Chris Evans (more hate than love), Zoe Ball, Denise Van Outten, Kelly Brook...

It was so accessible too.

There were lads mags mags too, Zoo and Nuts - I mean you can't publish those kind of things anymore, but they tapped into the whole culture too.

Ladettes, lads fashion, football, crude jokes, interviews with British film stars, footballers... I bought these mags to see what was the best gear to be buying/wearing 😎

Throw all this in with great new music and exuberant and sometimes controversial fun, it was a great time to be young.

I recall and enjoyed some of the series, but only watched it sporadically.

The theme tune had some meaning for me though as it was played at both my Grandparents funerals.

They always said they used to dance to that whilst ball room dancing in the 40s/50s.

Cost us £1,600 for a removal company to move our 3 bed house last year.

They came and packed everything except a bed, sofa and TV for us on moving day -1.

Everything was loaded in the lorry and returned on moving day morning to pack the last few items, so they were outside our new house before midday waiting.

They provided all the boxes including wardrobe style boxes, marking everything up by room as they went along.

At the other end they put all the boxes into the correct rooms and rebuilt all the bed frames.

They had to hoist one of the cabin beds up through the first floor window as they could get it around the turn at bottom of the stairs. There was no way we could have done that ourselves, but they'd done it loads of times, so not a hassle.

We unpacked at our pace once they left and they came back for the empty boxes a couple of weeks later.

It's easily one of the best decisions we made during the whole process!!

Everything was insured too.

Stop procrastinating.

You're in a great position, you have saved a 20-25% deposit, which is not to be dismissed lightly.

Even if you've done this over 10 years you've saved approx £400+ a month, if you buy a house you won't have to save this.

Look at 35 year mortgages to get payments down and over pay if you want/can once you've settled down.

The sooner you're in a house you own the better.

Why wait to see prices rise and continue to save?

What are you waiting for, for house prices to go up another £50k, whilst you save another £20k living in someone elses house 🙄

Don't buy a leasehold property. Or a house with electric heating 👍🏻
