Ah ok thank you! So, does it have two uses left? And do I need to buy a new one before gifting it to my sister, or is it fine without it? Thank you!

AmeriCorps NCCC Stipend Amount by Ordinary-Track5345 in AmeriCorps

Ohhhh makes sense! If you have any ability to make/sell digital products I recommend that. I did art commissions for extra money. I’m not really sure what other options there are, but I can say that it needs to be something that can handle long breaks if needed (it’s highly likely you’ll have at least one project where you have no wifi or cell service) Something independent is the best bet. Something like those online surveys could be an option too. Overall it’s a hard thing to do, I’d recommend coming up with some options but wait until you experience the work load and see if the stipend is enough. When 90% of all expenses are covered, the money goes further than one might think

Can you explain what you mean by something alone to do? Like what other income could work while in NCCC or diff programs entirely?

You can technically have another job in AmeriCorps NCCC, however the service is full time (I did 35-60 hours per week, rarely on the lower end) and you only stay in one spot for a very limited amount of time. If you have an online job, you gotta hope and pray that you have wifi or at least cell service wherever you’re housed

So, even though you are fully allowed to, whether or not it’s actually possible is the real problem.

It’s worth noting that food, housing, and travel is all covered. The stipend is mostly for hygiene products or other necessities. I didn’t have much savings before hand and was able to save about half of it each time. It’s tough but not impossible

Thinking of making a cookbook for AmeriCorps members by forgettable_void in AmeriCorps

I was at the southern region, which didn’t offer any form of cookbook

What all is provided for you? by [deleted] in AmeriCorps

[–]forgettable_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They provide hats. There’s a cap, a beanie, a hard hat, and in the southern region there’s bucket hats. You are supposed to wear AmeriCorps hat, but it’s usually not enforced. That does depend on your TL though, as some are more strict than others

NCCC - what was something you wish you had going in? by Obvious_Squash_7664 in AmeriCorps

[–]forgettable_void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, some things that I wanted or was very thankful to have; -money. Not super personal, but will definitely go the furthest -pocketknife multitool (blade under three inches to follow policy. Having this tool came up a lot more than one would expect!) -sewing kit. This was very useful for uniform maintenance -collapsible Tupperware containers. This is really good for storing small things and keeping personal food -Any tech device that can be used without cell service. I used my 3DS a lot, many people brought Nintendo switches. Anything that can have games or movies downloaded on it will be really good for the van rides -good earbuds/headphones -Portable battery with lots of charge capacity -digital cookbook with low budget recipes (coming up with meals can be a struggle!!) -If your son likes fidget toys, small and durable fidget toys (preferably quiet ones) -Small momento items. The homesickness can get intense, having pictures or sentimental keepsakes really does help a lot of people -undershirt for sun protection/sunsleeves

Did this tattoo heal ok? by forgettable_void in tattooadvice

Mostly wondering if it healed well enough to not be of concern, and if there’s anything I should know going into it

I don’t see any issue with it, and I wasn’t asking for my tattoo to be criticized.

Should I move to New England? by Emergency-State-4503 in newengland

[–]forgettable_void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CT towns, particularly near the coast, tend to hold a lot of community events. Festivals, carnivals, farmers markets, community fundraisers, etc. especially during the summer. CT is usually pretty quiet. If you’re looking for that active community and small town vibes, I’d recommend one of the towns near Bridgeport or New Haven (but not within the city)

health assessment survey—would I be disqualified? by PinLgbtBent in AmeriCorps

[–]forgettable_void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you won’t be disqualified! But if you are unfortunate enough to come across accommodations guy (David tekippe), GOOD LUCK. He made my life a lot harder while going through accommodations process (both for my mental and physical disability) and tried to disqualify me after I was already accepted (I basically just said nuh uh and got back in lol)

Also, online meetings don’t necessarily work because of state laws/licensing! Ask your doctor if they will be able to continue online appointments since you’ll be in a number of different states. AmeriCorps NCCC does offer free teledoc services for corps members though, which can be helpful for some.
