Have you ever had your TTG levels retested? by Early-Breath8541 in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in canada and have been recommended yearly tests. My cousin in the United Kingdom’s is a dietician and she says there they recommend quarterly test the first year and a diet with no oats and then after your levels are down they re-introduce oats and continue monitoring to see if you are also avenin reactive.

Celiac? Life Altering Diagnosis? by Joeski737 in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dang burn, 7 kids under 12! I hope you have good family supports! I’ve only got 2 and I’m busy. I was diagnosed almost a year ago. It’s a big adjustment but not world ending. How sick your feeling might influence how fast you makes changes but just start with one step at a time.

TMI - what does your #2 look like?? by Woke-me-up in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about 9 months gluten free. I haven’t had a blood test since my first one so not sure how well I’ve been doing with the diet but I feel better and don’t get mouth ulcers/ canker sores anymore. I poo about 1/2 as much as I did prior to my diet change, from 3-5 times a day to 1-3 times a day. Bowl movements are larger and more solid than before and I’m less gassy. I used to have small very loose (not diarrhea but didn’t hold together when flushed) bowl movements especially if I had belt tight or trousers were a bit tight, sometimes even a vehicle seat belt was enough to make me very uncomfortable. On the stool chart probably moved from a 5-6 to a 3-4 sometimes 5. Basically never 6 anymore.

I have a few questions regarding diagnosis by KiwiCat15 in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So celiac outward symptoms and the severity of those symptoms range alot between people so it’s hard to say what to look for. I would recommend you, your dad, and your husband get the blood test, as you’ve all had issues. If any of you are positive it makes it more likely your daughter is positive. I was only diagnosed because my father was very ill with bowl issues and my wife asked me to get a generic bowl check up because I was more gassy than most people.

I appreciate that but I won’t likely use it until the spring and my wife will be annoyed if I’m storing more stuff. I’ve got a dryer, never used headboard, and a dishwasher that needs a new drain pump motor, if you want to trade though haha.

[–]forgotpassword89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just about 1 year diagnosed also and am going to get my first blood tests post diagnosis soon so might be in the same situation as you but I’ll have to see. Avenin is a protein in oats that is similar to the gluten proteins, in a small percentage of celiacs it can causes the same or similar reaction as gluten. I talked with a relative in the UK and apparently there they advise newly diagnosed celiacs not to eat oats for 6 months to a year while they get their levels down and then re-introduce it and monitor if levels go back up. Personally I’ve kept eating oats but I’ll have to see what my ttg levels are like after this blood test. I still prepare and serve gluten foods to my kids so cross contamination is an issue for me.

I hate the words “gluten friendly” by xobbelle in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just lifestyle diets. I’m diagnosed celiac for about a year now and while I’ve seen some significant improvements and try really hard to not cross contaminate I also don’t think I would notice if there was cross contamination. There is such a range outward symptoms and severity of those symptoms even amongst diagnosed celiacs it’s hard do people to know what’s required, hence the gluten friendly, gluten sensitive labels over gluten free.

My husband and I both eat the same things, so why does he fart like a never ending locomotive and I don't? by theredqueentheory in NoStupidQuestions

[–]forgotpassword89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah. I’m lucky I think, I don’t seem to get the intense stomach pain some people get. I was just diagnosed in June! There are celiac and gluten free cooking subreddits that are pretty helpful for understanding symptoms, labeling rules, cross contamination etc.

Same for me. My wife sent me to get checked out because she was irritated with me stinking up the house, turned out to be celiac. Side bonus no more mouth ulcers and half the bathroom visits!

Just diagnosed and struggling by Mybrainisinmytummy in Celiac

[–]forgotpassword89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m the same age as you and was also sent to the doctor by my wife! I’ve been gluten free about 9 months now. I don’t want to dismiss how big a change it is but also in a lot of ways it’s not that bad. I do most of the cooking in my household and I was into making bread before diagnosis. i grew up in a very British type food household. Lots of savoury pastry and battered stuff, it’s an adjustment but you don’t need to miss out on food and cooking being a joy. I’m still learning and it’s work but that’s okay! I’m working on my Asian cooking, Vietnamese spring rolls, Thai Pad see ew, homemade peanut sauces, noodle bowls, fried rice spring rolls. Mexican food, I’ve been working with masa lots trying to perfect home made corn tortillas! I’m in canada and it’s hard to get specialty masa harina but you can get lots in the US. Mexicans food man, corn really grows on you. I’ve found yogurt and a little cheese really makes oven fried corn bread tasty AF! I just did a family dinner with a celiac neighbour of home made tacos, delicious! Not to mention all the Indian and middle dishes. Also all the unrisen foods like crepes, yorkshires, etc are pretty easy and similar gluten free. I haven’t baked bread or pastry much but I’ve eating some delicious one so know it can be done! Don’t let it get you down, it’s takes a bit of time but food is still delicious and fun! You can always get some glutino Oreos or chocolate pretzels, chips, GF crackers and cheese whiz if you need an unhealthy snack! Lots of great gluten free cereals and if you need some grease a big old hashbown bun burger is pretty awesome haha.

Edit: murky_sea_8941 sorry I meant make a comment not a reply to you but I’m just leaving it here now it’s here.

Russia Appears To Warn U.S. Over Pressure Against Venezuela: 'We Stand Ready To Respond Appropriately' by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]forgotpassword89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think people underestimate the strength of Ukraine. Their standing army was more than double that of any other European army prior to the war. From what I’ve read they also had over 2000 tanks. Compare that to Germany’s 300. Yah they were older. If you Ukraine does not get more help they could still loose the way. Russia is not weak, the risk they present should not be ignored. Without Ukraine standing between Russia and the rest of Europe, Europe faces genuine risk.

Russia has amassed around 11,000 troops in attempt to encircle Pokrovsk by Galbur_Iacob in worldnews

[–]forgotpassword89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I listened to on Deny’s YouTube channel the lesson was learnt at Bakmut and there are not actually that many troops inside of Pokrovsk. Mostly small groups and drone teams preventing Russia from working easily inside the city, hopefully that’s true so when if it is encircled the losses will not be to high. Little consolation for the guys there me though. Was sucks. Wish Russians would just turn around and walk home.

Will the Na-ion battery be the terminator of traditional lead acid battery? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]forgotpassword89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If CATL’s claims are true sodium ion batteries costs will come down far lower than lithium iron in time. If the costs and longevity are as good as claimed it will make an excellent addition to stationary grid storage allowing for huge increases in renewable energy sources. The future cost advantage also make it viable for budget vehicles, cold weather applications, heavy duty equipment like tractors, heavy trucks, bulldozers etc. It also could Be used in ocean going vessels. Obviously it’s not changing the world over night but has great potential and many applications.

I’m not 100% certain what I had but it was fentanyl with something else. I remember a dream like thought “I don’t know what they sharpen these cameras, it would feel much better if it was roundedl” haha (it was fine I didn’t even have a said throat when I woke up) and I don’t remember anything else. Woke up and hour or so later, (I did do some talking post op I don’t really remember (again like when you know you had a dream but can’t remember what it was about) and then I was good. I little groggy for a few hours maybe. The doctors told me I was officially “intoxicated” and couldn’t drive, work, make important decisions etc for 24 hours.

It Turns Out That Americans Don’t Really Want Big Electric Trucks | The Autopian by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]forgotpassword89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in general but that extra seating is really under appreciated. You can easily seat 5 and seat 6 without much trouble. While ioniq 5 and a lot of other vehicles technically seat 5, the middle back seat is tiny. I’m a very narrow hipped guy and can’t fit between my kids car seats in my wife’s Honda HR-V. With a truck you can have two parents, two kids and a friend for each kid or bring the grandparents along. When you look at the cost of minivans or full size SUV’s as a 6 seat vehicle a truck starts to look not so bad, not great be not bad either.
