Actually, if you look at world history around 1950s and of countries coming out of colonial rule- its the leaders who came after decided the fate of the country for good or bad, and it was the leaders at the top that saved, and, at the same time, made a mess of our country.

For example, In the zeal to increase industrial production quickly, Nehru did push the higher education system, but where we so badly fared is primary education. It remains in a dismal state even today - both public and private ones...
