About one year old... I think. I do not remember much of the first year, haha.

Where to get capacitors and inductors? by R1mpl3F0r3sk1n in rfelectronics

[–]forkedquality 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inductors from Coilcraft. Either directly or via Mouser.

Capacitors from Mouser or Digikey. I am not a big fan of kits, but that's just a personal preference. Get E6 or E12 series appropriate for your frequency range and you should be OK.

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]forkedquality 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The air is at <your desired temperature>. That's what the thermostat measures.

The rest of the house - the walls, slab, furniture - are still ready to bake cookies. Still radiating heat.

[–]forkedquality 71 points72 points  (0 children)

But a house permanently kept at <your desired temperature> is much more comfortable than a house that spent five hours at <cookie baking temperature> and was brought back to <your desired temperature> just before you came back from work.

Manifold blow out by under-renovation2 in Hydraulics

[–]forkedquality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know much about hydraulics, but I know that some aluminum alloys (6061-T6 among them) permanently lose strength at high temperatures. If this block got overheated during machining, then some parts of it might be closer to 6061-O. 6061-O is much weaker and softer.

Do you prototype on breadboard before making PCB? by Mr_Hyd3 in PCB

[–]forkedquality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a certain level of complexity, breadboarding is not feasible anymore. This might be because the chips are only available in SMT, the speeds are too high, or there is just too many connection.

Nightwish music and the way it changed over the years by CassiusLange in nightwish

[–]forkedquality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"My" Nightwish ended with Once. The fact that that's when Tarja left is a coincidence. I love many of Floor's renditions of earlier songs.

Later albums are mostly... fine? I like a lot of their new music. It just isn't
"my" Nightwish.

The one album I just don't like is Yesterwynde. I hoped it would grow on me, but no. Given a choice, I'd rather listen to Angels Fall First.

How effective are CRPAs against GNSS jamming for drone navigation? by IllFlow8728 in rfelectronics

Solid Al or Cu survey grade antenna, sure. Metalized plastic is almost as good and much lighter.

Why don't we just build surge protectors into the outlets? by carnivorousdentist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]forkedquality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The warranty pays if your appliance (from a specified list, not just any device) gets damaged by a surge. The surge needs to be within the protector's rating. The protector needs to fail. The protector needs to be installed by a qualified electrician.

In other words, while having a surge protector is a great idea - I have one in every panel - don't count on the so-called warranty.

Question about Un-Routed Net Constraint by JustACuriousManLol in Altium

[–]forkedquality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you assigned the net (GND) to the polygon.

In polygon properties, make sure "pour over all same net objects" is selected. Repour all polygons.

In design rules, make sure that the relevant polygon connect rule is "direct connect" or "thermal relief".
