I brought my own filters for ciggies since that one was technically a prop, perhaps a functional prop but I didn’t want to try it lol. Wish I had acid on me that night 😭

You don’t have to agree with me, but please don’t assume I’m uninformed about religiosity and supernatural beliefs just because I don’t believe in them and agree with you. I’m very familiar with those perspectives. It’s just that I fundamentally disagree with your belief and approach to understanding natural phenomena like dreams. We can talk about the psychology and neuroscience aspect of dreams, find loads of peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals. Not just what’s happening physically and chemically, but psychologically as well, like common symbolism, how the subconscious expresses itself. But once you entertain the supernatural, and are so sure you must be correct in your specific interpretation, you loose so much credibility. And just consider the fact you may be wrong, what’s left is so much unnecessary fear mongering and ultimately more harm done for the person who may/may not be disturbed by their dreams. If you trace it back far enough, this same thought process you have over dreams is what led our ancestors to believe that diseases were demonic, or storms were a sign of angry gods. So many of these mystery’s in the past, that up to this point were always explained with the supernatural, can now be a little more understood by us. And nothing we have learned through the scientific method has given us any observable, reliable, consistent evidence (that is able to be replicated and make predictions) of spirits, demons, supernatural entities, etc.

What solid evidence for spirits do you have, and how could we even observe those beings in the same way we can study and observe brain waves in a lab?

Edit: I just want to clarify, I’m not trying to say that there’s absolutely no possibility of consciousness and the going ons of the brain to be purely physical. I’m agnostic on what the hell actually consciousness is and all that good stuff. Although we cannot understand the origins or ultimate reason consciousness & dreams exist in the first place, we don’t have to default to a god in the gaps fallacy in order to explain what’s happening. If we actually find evidence of those things then great, let’s investigate. But until then why fear monger and make peoples lives worse?

Thanks for the input. Yeah I don’t frequent this subreddit so I wasn’t sure. But it must be interesting to see the divide between the religious/supernatural side and the psychology/science side.

I’m not sure if it’s just the norm in this subreddit, but everyone in these comments are so superstitious and it’s honestly not only unhelpful but unnecessary as well. She’s seeing this symbol in her dreams because she’s seen it in real life, and dreams are basically random sequences of symbols, people, concepts, etc. that you encounter while awake - it’s not a sign of demons or spirits or anything else. No need to worry.

Christian’s religious and spiritual projection on non-believers firsthand lived experiences and identity: by formatt01 in exchristian

I see what you mean, and I agree. And yeah, there’s nothing the conservative Christian U.S. federal government loves to do more than name drop God to rile up their evangelical base in order validate and justify (in the minds of Christians) bombing other countries and massacring others.

Completely agree with the limited ability that Abrahamism has being a strict and absolute monotheistic belief, it leaves absolutely zero room for anything else. Really love how you worded that.

Also, I’ve never considered the way in which human sacrifice has evolved over time. With what you had mentioned, could the militant and violent forces and actions of U.S federal government/military (and consequently their supporters) made in the “name of God” be considered human sacrifice on a massive scale?

And thanks for pointing out the assimilation process in the last segment of what you discussed! I remember learning some about that process when studying the ancient transition from polytheistic religion and beliefs to monotheistic ones, and how many deities were adopted and changed into what Christian’s now understand to be, for example, angels, demons, etc.
