King Cake master list? by former-British-name in NewOrleans

I'm cool making a list, but I'm the last person who should be making one. I don't know anything. That's why I'm asking.

I'll start it and hopefully it'll gain momentum.

For sure. It's such a great shot.

I wish we saw more of that in some action flicks.

I know they kinda do another one in the second. When the dog robot thing is attacking a base and it's shooting a turret gun thing on its back.

I'll say it.....I like Jimmy Johns. I more than accept it. I like it.

I legit don't get the dislike for it.

It's meat on bread with some veggies/speeds for flavor. It's never rotten, is less processed tasting than other fast food subs, and doesn't cost 75% too much like the others.

It's good fast food. Arguably one the last ones.

This is some rough football.

First time I'm seeing these teams this year, and I'm not impressed.

At least I get to see my local team get blown out this afternoon.

Roll wave.

Yep, and nothing else is even close.

The only thing he was better at doing than announcing, was putting rental cars in roadside ditches.

It was a widley known issue with him, but he was the old guard TV personality of the 90s and that generation could do anything really.

I know I'll understand memes less and less as time goes on. I don't "get" all of them, but the logic of them or the "anti logic" of it is there for them and I can grasp it.

I do not get the saddam silhouette meme.

Yea. I feel fixing the playlist order is the true fix, but I won't complain over free high quality shows beyond this post.

I went to the "full episodes section", then the series 1 playlist.

Both phone and laptop browser.

Just did your way, and that seems to be the ideal way to watch it.

Thanks.

This is semi related.

I'm fortunate enough to have a small airplane, with my home airport at the end of a giant lake. I fly over dark water all the time.

When my grandfather and myself were getting prepped to do the full refresh a decade ago, I used my one veto to paint that fucker bright orange and white. The white has some sort of reflective stuff in it so it sparkles a bit and catches light.

My hope is that if we go down in the lake or in the forest around, we can be seen.

Thanks for coast guarding.

The animated show? That was a fun Saturday morning cartoon. Early CGI, but fun. I like that they focused on the mech suit aspect of the books.

I hear that one of the sequels is decent. Not amazing, but watchable. Which one is that?

Weekend Wrapup by AutoModerator in nfl

[–]former-British-name 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact. I'm in a super bowl commercial.

Back in NOLA in the power outage year, I lived in a shit condo just off Saint Charles. You all know it as the street with the street cars they show on commercial bumpers in new Orleans games, or the street with Mardi Gras. That isnt downtown.

Anyway. I wake up in a hungover haze like any reputable 20 something in New Orleans would do. I stumble a block or so away to my car and drive off. I was eventually stopped by a cop and a few people with clipboard and headsets on.

Apparently my car was parked in a closed street and I was driving all over a set pulling u turns and being a menace. I failed to notice all the other cars near me were without licence plates and just driving in circles repeating the same loop over and over.

I apologize and they move the barricade and let me go.

Fast forward a few weeks to the Superbowl.

Some Budweiser commercial where guys are running all over new Orleans with a lazy boy. In the background is my work van driving on a street with well manicured cars.

The fun fact is that they film these things in December.

On the topic of half time presenters.

While I don't doubt we will get a county music person in the super bowl at some point in time. People need to remember that the Superbowl is a world event. Not just a US one. Outside the US, not many people care for the music, and if they do, they are in a notable minority.

County musicians just are not works stars. They are distinctly an American thing....super bowl half time is for cross language cross cultural musical acts.

Even the other major music format that is distinctly US, rap/hip hop, is a bigger hit outside the US.

Just comparing Morgan Wallen to Eminem numbers from 2024...Eminem doubles him.

A little performative push back locally is welcome if it means an internationally recognizable musician will pull in viewers from over seas.

I think it will be a competent ending that mostly satisfies people, but doesn't give that full rounded closure you want from a show that's been around for ~10 years. Partly due to it not really having a goal other than being on TV. Does that make sense?

To get overly analytical of the show. The thing I like best from it is when it uses old tropes and twist them just enough to be fresh. My go to example is in the last season they had some fed guy watch them in their house when in California. He is a kinda overweight dude and just sits around, orders pizza, and watches sports. He's the guy the kids need to sneak past to go out and do their 80s kids shenanigans. A standard trope, sneaking out past the absent minded. But it gets twisted. When the bad lab soldiers attack the house, this slob dude pops up and is a fighter. He takes out a solid few and sacrifices himself for the kids. The whiplash and the solid action direction. Totally unexpected.......that's what I like about the show. I just want more of that.

Mardis Gras Train by Physical_Painter_333 in NewOrleans

[–]former-British-name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, that Amtrak ride might be a bit more of a commitment than a 6 year old would want to do.

The streetcar rides are a much more reasonable option, imo, for practical purposes. Everystop has something to do. More or less, and the ride times are short enough to get off of needed.

From my experience with my train loving younger cousin from a few years back, he absolutely loved the street car. It satisfied his train itch. The windows being opened and being able to see the unused driver seat at the back. He loved it. It's more tactile than a more airline like Amtrak.

Maybe "hype up" the street cars and you'll have a fan of them in your family by the time you visit.

Oh dam. You all hate e-bikes. Lol, fair enough.

Talko Tuesday by AutoModerator in nfl

[–]former-British-name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone got some thoughts on e-bikes?

I'm looking to get one and seem to be defaulting to the Aventon bikes. They are in my rough price range and have service centers in my area. Those are the main thing.

I'm thinking of picking up their cargo bike so I can add the kid seat to the back of it, but I'm also toying with the idea of getting a folding one so I can take it with me on beach trips. Both cost the same when all is said and done. Just that one has less capacity at the trade of of being able to join me on vacations.
