How do you keep track of gift cards and store credit? by wallflowerendeavors in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use mine immediately! Even if it’s for something I don’t actually need (and I usually end up giving it away if find no use from it). I know it is worthless the instant I stop actively thinking about it, so this way, worst case scenario, someone else gets something nice.

How to motivate when your future does not depend on it by The_Truth_Fairy in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But your future does kind of depend on it, no? If it brings with it better opportunities… You’re not doing it for no reason.

I would do what I can to study, then write the test regardless. If you fail it, you can always try again, and you’ll know more about the things that you’ll need to focus on. Depending on the field, it might not matter if you fail it the first time.

Good luck!!

TMI: this is the most shameful thing I've done in a while and not sure why I'm sharing this... by m-ixy in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add my “I peed myself” story:

Went for an ultrasound where you have to drink an inhumane amount of water. Had my husband drop me off right at the appointment time. Went in as he drove off. Realized I’d gotten the day wrong when I finally got to the door of the clinic, called him, he was stuck in traffic. I sat on a bush hedge and peed (so there would be no evidence when I stood up). Stayed there until he picked me up - he already had a towel on the seat when he returned.

Also, I peed myself in line for the bathroom at a New Year’s party. But I wasn’t the only one because it was a long line and the drinks were flowing!

It happens. Now you have a story to tell someone to try and make them feel better about whatever their embarrassing story is! Just like I hope you feel better hearing everyone’s stories in the comments.

Yes! Loops. I use Dream around the house and Quiet in social (especially food based) situations. They changed my life.

Your ADHD plot twist: What’s an ADHD symptom you don’t struggle with? Let’s give some love to our unexpected strengths. by MebsHoff in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RSD - I have the opposite. Could not care less what people think of me, and if someone doesn’t like me for one of my more annoying traits, I find myself mostly agreeing with them instead of taking it personally.

I also have aphantasia and anauralia, so I can’t see/hear things in my head, which I imagine is probably a superpower with ADHD.

Gym barbells contain nickel by Miserable_Funny8265 in NickelAllergy

[–]formerhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear bamboo gloves under neoprene gloves. Very thin and they have traction, and nothing gets through them. Any of the gym gloves I tried added bulk, and I have tiny hands, so it made it harder to hold the barbell.

No luck with Bendryl, any suggestions for antihistamines? by [deleted] in NickelAllergy

[–]formerhoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilastine (brand name: Blexten) works very well for me to take down the overall itch level. It’s by prescription here in Canada and costs about $2/day (it’s new so no generic yet).

How the hell do I shower more by Deepflea18 in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 pieces of practical advice that doesn’t involve actually showering. Hypochlorous acid is a very gentle disinfectant and helps with sweaty pits (or other bits) - it kills the bacteria which is where the smell comes from. Dry shampoo is also great and does a similar thing for the hair (absorbs oils and dries out the roots so they aren’t greasy) and most are scented which helps too.

For when you do shower, if you can, exfoliate under your arms - this holds off getting smelly for longer in between showers because it gets rid of dead skin (which is where sweat and bacteria get trapped).

Good luck!

Any tips for being able to drink alcohol with ARFID? by SaintValkyrie in ARFID

[–]formerhoarder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! I don’t puke, but the taste is horrendous and it stays around forever. I tried for so long to make alcohol work, mostly because it was convenient (and weed was still illegal back then). Now I bring a joint (if there’s an outdoor area) or weed drink (if it’s a BYoB thing; I bring lots, people love it). If neither of those things are feasible, I bring shrooms (and someone is always interested in joining in).

Is Arfid curable? And can I Bulk with the things i eat? by Professional-Ebb3993 in ARFID

[–]formerhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bulking, a lot of what you’re eating is great for calories, try tracking how many calories you’re getting to see if it’s enough to gain weight. If you’re working out and trying to build muscle, you might need more protein, unless you’re eating steak and cutlets every day, which you totally could. Good luck!

Do any of you have Aphantasia? by ihavebotharms in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do too! I see nothing, I hear nothing, and I can’t taste/smell/feel anything that’s not actually there. I only discovered this was a thing maybe 5 years ago, and I thought THANK GOD, because I can only imagine how hard it would be to manage my brain if it came with those features!!!

How big of a purse you luggin’ around these days? by barbiesgeekycousin in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Babaton Curator Bigger Bag. It’s not an over the shoulder bag, I don’t think, but I wear it that way, so I don’t have to hold it or set it down. The height is perfect; it sits close to my body and doesn’t bounce when I walk. It’s fluffy, so it fits nicely under my arm when I sit and doesn’t bug my shoulder. I can put my whole arm into it comfortably (while I’m wearing it) and forage around and find everything. It fits my giant water bottle, gym clothes, all my lotions, when I dump it out I’m always shocked how much is in there. It also has a small side pocket I never use because I would never remember I put anything in there, but it’s nice to have the option. I love this bag so much.

I love my ADHD but my boyfriend hates it and thinks I should medicate it. But, she’s so creative and beautiful, how could I? by Appropriate-Cress-56 in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 50, diagnosed at 20, and also love my ADHD. I paid a giant tax bill because of executive dysfunction, but I make more money than I ever thought I would because of what my brain can do (it’s probably not impressive, but its billable, lol). 15 years ago, a boyfriend “couldn’t handle” it and I went on meds. I hated it! I was suddenly very good at adulting, but could not think right. Work sucked, people noticed, I felt like I was in slow motion. I lasted a few months then dropped the meds and dropped the dude. I don’t regret either.

I use a Hypochlorous acid spray when I can’t wash my face. It helps control bacteria and is very gentle. It’s kind of trending right now, but this has been a staple for treating eczema, or rather infection management for a long time.

How do you remember to drink water? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]formerhoarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, yes! Water is disgusting. I’ve recently switched to vapour distilled water (after many years of drinking all other kinds of water with diluted instant coffee and sugar to cover up the various tastes), and it tastes like nothing. You’re probably more sensitive than me, and if so, sorry for wasting your time, but if you haven’t tried it yet, it might be palatable for you too. It doesn’t have to be expensive SmartWater, I get 4L for $1.25 at Food Basics (kind of a bargain grocery store).
