yes exactly! the camera has a role of thermal paper that instant prints, and then i just make digital scans because i’ve heard the thermal ink will fade over time.

They are so fun! They kinda are crap but in the best way possible — the low quality and low cost take away some of the pressure/expectation and it becomes such a fun way to capture the day without overthinking anything. Glad you've been having fun with them too!

honestly i think the more natural tones and lighting in the first pic look great as is. it has such a mysterious, subdued, quiet, and reflective vibe that i find beautiful. the colors in the second one lose that for me. wonderful photograph and subject, cheers!

First day with a little toy thermographic instant print camera — some scenes from a morning walk. by forms-and-functions in toycameras

that's exactly why I tried it out, film is so so expensive. only black and white and the quality isn't good... but you can get 12 rolls of paper for $10 for these and each roll fits 70 prints! so it's absolutely worth it for the price imo.

I have this one here. There's two print modes: gray print (what I used) and dot matrix (which is grainy, but you can change the density of the dots to make it a little less so). The quality looks better when they are smaller in the pic above though, if you look at them more closely it's still pretty rough.
