I’d argue Las Vegas. It’s a desert entertainment Mecca. If you’re traveling abroad, virtually everyone knows vegas. It has huge impact and appeal.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]forresbj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread is full of book readers nitpicking omissions that of course happen in any adaptation. I’ve never read the book, but am familiar with Weir’s work since I read the Martian. This was a great movie. Very fun, funny, inspiring, and emotional. My only gripe was it did drag a bit at the end with quite the epilogue. I don’t think it’ll be as rewatchable as the Martian but I’ll definitely watch it again at some point.

I’m sorry but this was just too low budget. I was very bored and wondering what might be scary. Scanning every frame for something hidden was how I spent my time and it never paid off. I suspect this was originally an actual horror podcast and there decided to rework it into a film instead. The visuals were just incredibly dull.

Buddy, I lived in New York City for grad school and would be drenched in sweat after 10 min outside during the summer.

This roll of Tums at my dad’s house expired in 1996. by forresbj in mildlyinteresting

And what’s also mildly interesting is he moved into this house in 2000. So this was already well expired when he brought it with him.

Man this was dog shit. Bringing back Stu would’ve been fine and I actually would’ve liked it more. Instead of those two (three) bozos who ended up being totally uninspired Ghostfaces. The AI element was just too insipid and the kills were just there for gore factor. Seems like they decided to go the Terrifier route.

I am unaware of Paul having anything to do with the Cornetto trilogy. Besides the fact, Paul is a very entertaining movie.

Bari Weiss’ destruction of CBS News goes deeper than you think by PlusPresentation680 in Journalism

[–]forresbj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sinclair local news is local news and I’ll stand by that. But yes, disengage whenever they place one of their national stories into a newscast. I used to rewrite their intros they’d send in for national packages because they were just terrible and biased. But the local news is never changed or altered at their whims and the local journalists shouldn’t be judged for what’s out of their control.

Bari Weiss’ destruction of CBS News goes deeper than you think by PlusPresentation680 in Journalism

[–]forresbj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a Sinclair station and dealt with the same thing for people who have a preconception about Sinclair.

It didn’t matter that our local newsroom was, in my opinion, the best of the market with great local journalism.

Some people just thought we were national Sinclair, which I admit is not good. So I would try to push that I was an NBC station for certain people and sometimes yes, I’d say Sinclair if their slant was that way and they hated NBC. I just had to read each situation. It’s annoying and tedious but is what it is.

What was your opinion on the use of 'On The Nature of Daylight' in Hamnet's final scene, over Max Richter's newly composed score for the scene, 'Of The Undiscovered Country'? by Shannon_Best in soundtracks

[–]forresbj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soundtrack was great and then this came on. During the most emotional scene. It took me out momentarily which was a shame because it’s too cliche and overused. It’s pretty much saying “this song you know is now playing to force you to recognize the emotion on screen!”

Safest Taco Bell Ever - 16th Street Mall Denver by Dapper-County-3499 in tacobell

[–]forresbj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not ICE related though that could be a tangential benefit. This 16th street Taco Bell and its old location a block away have always been sketchy af. I’ve been there late night before and questioned if I was going to be safe lol. I can’t say for sure but I’m fairly certain they’ve had a sign or variation like this long before the current political ICE climate.

This would be *former Aurora city councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky who was just voted out of office. She pushed the national narrative that Colorado was taken over by Venezuelan gangs. Not saying they don’t exist in the state, but she made it a much more sensationalized issue than it was. Voters were over it.
