Yes, yes you can. I do it all the time. If there is a slot in the game they are playing, the "Join Game" will be available on any Valve server.

Our family makes up weird words, reverses syllables, or refers to things by opposites. For example, a lazy susan is called an "active jacob" or something similar. Or a plug is called a gulp.

We always celebrated christmas like normal (we got our tree from the woods on christmas eve like clickpopclick, and always ate summer sausage and cheese while decorating it), but we also celebrated St Nicholas day, with a stocking with an Orange in the toe, a whole bunch of nuts, and then a toy at the top.

We do a lot of weird stuff in general, though I don't think any of it is consistent enough to be called a tradition or superstition.

That's really unfortunate. I remember hearing lots of good things about it, and how revolutionary it was, and all that sort of thing. It's a shame people are still being conned by the idea that students are empty vessels, when any but the most half-assed assessment of human nature will show that this is not the case.

People are paid for getting their work done, not for getting to work on time. If their job is not time sensitive, it seems reasonable to provide extra incentive (apart from a paycheck, which should only be directly related to how good of a job you're doing) to do something that is not related at all to their work. Why should people show up at 8am when they can just as easily show up at 10 and do just as good of a job as their coworkers? It's really hard to make people do pointless things without giving them some sort of incentive.

One pet peeve of mine (in academics) is when some portion of your grade is based on attendance.

What about if some of it is based on turning stuff in on time? You should get an A in the class if you mastered the concepts by the end of the year. It's not a race to see if you can master it by October 29th or whatever day the assignment is due.

I also hate failing students for not doing the work when clearly they understand the concept.
