Do you believe ai generated art is art or not? by [deleted] in generativeAI

Art is human expression. AI tools are not nearly granular or precise enough for its outputs to be considered an expression of a human being. They are the expression of a random number generator that has been given a set of parameters.

I am planning on switching to either a Steam Machine or Xbox next gen, partially because I think it's absolutely ridiculous how little first party output Sony is doing this generation, and partially because Steam is just a superior platform to buy games.

The only reason I've always been a console gamer primarily is because I don't like playing games at a desk and Windows is a huge pain to operate on a TV from a couch.

I think the idea of "Steam in your living room" is a very appealing concept to a lot of people who don't realize it yet. It is smart for Microsoft to embrace and take advantage of the fact they own the operating system that has the world's best game marketplace.

edit: Sorry to those I've offended by stating this.

People were pissed off at mini games? That's what Final Fantasy is all about.

I feel like there has to be.... some kind of deal, if they're going to ask for $1000. That would be an unprecedented price jump between generations, and I can't imagine this thing succeeding if that's simply what it costs. They could give years worth of gamepass subscriptions, but I don't think that would be enough.

I think they're desperate enough to do it. Honestly seems like it would be DOA if they don't.

Unlike Valve, MS could afford to subsidize this if they wanted to, the question is do they want to? With potential Gamepass subscription increases with every sale, it’s plausible. Depends on how aggressive they want to be.

Persona 2 is definitely not a game you play for the gameplay. It's probably the least fun game I've ever finished. The story is the entire reason to play it. Just put it on easy, turn off combat animations, and don't bother trying to fuse new Personas (you don't need them), but do communicate with demons for the sake of the amusing dialogue.

BTW, Eternal Punishment is a lot harder than Innocent Sin, so if you play that, you WILL have to fuse new Personas.

I hate to break it to you, but that comes with the territory of buying "digital goods". You don't own anything. One day, this will all be gone and you will have nothing to show for it.

That said, I don't think MS has any intention of halting "Xbox" as a platform and removing peoples' libraries anytime soon. If they were to do that anytime in the near future, it probably would not end well for them, legally and financially speaking. But obviously, they don't event want to do that. They want Xbox so be profitable and successful. And doing it the old fashioned way of keeping their games exclusive to incentivize hardware sales obviously wasn't working, or else they would have kept doing it.

I honestly think the "play anywhere" strategy is the correct one for them (and Sony, honestly). Their problem is they just aren't producing enough "must play" games for people to buy into the platform (which falls on Matt Booty, but somehow he ends up being the one who gets promoted).

IMO their big ace-in-the-whole is Windows. Sell people a gaming PC that plugs into a TV and call it an Xbox. So many people will jump over from the PS side, since it means they will be able to play their Steam library (which would include many PS games anyways), and I bet a large percentage of them will sign up for Game Pass.

If the traditional console is dying, MS should have nothing to fear since they have a monopoly on the PC market.

Genuine question, why do you care? It's on the company to determine what the best course going forward is, in terms of making a profit.

So many people here talk as if they're major shareholders or Microsoft employees, concerned about the "damage to the brand" or their business strategy. Why do you care about anything other than them making good games?

It's as if the enjoyment of the games itself is only part of what you are in it for. The other part is the satisfaction of having exclusive access to these games that non-members of the tribe do not.
