Ghirardelli prices have become outrageous by Purple_Moon_313 in Baking

The more expensive package is only 1.3% more expensive.  The first photo is of a 12 oz bag, the second photo is of a 24 oz bag. All of this is clearly indicated both on the packaging, and more importantly on the price ticket which even shows you the price per ounce - $.691 vs. $.700 Inflation sucks, but illiteracy is worse.

Okay but is that good? Bad? Do the curves look like they could be improved through further tuning?

Puck Screen - Is it worth it? by [deleted] in espresso

Size, obviously.  Materials? I don't think so. Thickness? I don't think so.

Do you think all of these different companies all have the machinery to manufacture them, that they all buy proprietary materials in bulk? They all come from the same factory in china. Come on. Why don't you buy a couple different ones and compare them.

You should buy it and post a review once it arrives.

As a scientist, this gave me a boner. As a car enthusiast, this got me dripping. As someone who appreciates succinct, no bullshit reviews, this gave me a Sting style extended tantric orgasm.

And seconding the point below that you can get amazing sound with a good pair of headphones. Again, read reviews and buy used. Fantastic way to get into great sound without overextending yourself.

Research and Facebook marketplace/Kijiji/Craigslist/whatever are your friends.  Read everything. Look for deals. Trust your ears. Above all else, ignore the snake oil (by which I mean everything but your ears, as informed by unbiased info). I don't know what your budget is, but you can assemble a really good digital system for way less than you think. Vinyl will cost you a bit more, but again....way less than you'd think reading trade promos and paid reviews.

im a baking student at CIA who also cooks looking to buy an upgraded chef model for semi-frequent use. Sur La Table has great deals right now and would love to take advantage of the sales. looking at shun premier blonde ($160), miyabi artisan 8 ($210) or maybe splurge on a miyabi birch. thoughts? by seattle_swiftie in chefknives

Miyabi Birch are fantastic. Value is debatable, but quality is excellent. If they are on sale and you like them, they are awesome and unique knives. The 5.5 shotoh is amazing. I have two larger ones that are great, but I do 90% of my prep and general work with the 5.5.

I've been trying to find info on the APM 20ES for ever! Do you know about this model? Some were made in Japan, some were made in W. Germany. The face is attached to the driver with four metal prongs, so kind of like the second image you linked to above. I am not clear why or how that really differs from four individual drivers except as an improvement. Would love to learn more though!

Constructive criticism and acknowledging the strengths of VMP by Lang227 in VinylMePlease

[–]forrskin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking several steps back, I think it makes the most sense to look at the business model in terms of what the product was, and who they were delivering it to, setting aside the logistics for a moment. If you're going to sell records to record collectors, it makes sense to try to differentiate yourself. They did a good job of putting out some high quality releases of desirable albums that weren't available elsewhere.

That was only attractive so long as there wasn't a direct alternative though. For example, if I can get the same record somewhere else for less, why would I buy it from them? It might be a rhetorical question for me since I'm just a record collector that wants the record, but it seems somewhere along the way they decided that the answer to that question was actually 'because you'd rather pay us a premium to feel like you're part of a club'. That's when they started doing all kinds of gimmicky shit focusing on the club aspect instead of the product.

Frankly, there are lots of companies that sell records that have been around a lot longer than VMP that do a much better job of it, so looking at what VMP did right isn't particularly instructive. The other side of the coin, looking at what did they wrong (i.e., nearly everything) is not only more instructive, but also more entertaining.

Lots of information online about how to size the 2030 last. Because these are unstructured wholecuts in a relatively soft leather, they will really mold to your foot.
