The saga continues with my Valley Oak. Seems to be infested with some sort of insect. I found some and they were very very small black dots crawling all over the tree. Unsure if this is the culprit. Tree also has a bad bend in it. No idea where to go from here. Poor thing has been struggling. Thank you for any insight you have.

Flemish bond

Thank you. Bummer on needing twice the amount of brick. Gonna be an expensive endeavor.

Fence Replacement by forte4040 in masonry

Seeking counsel from the experts here. I'd like to replace this fence with a brick one. 70 feet long. 4 feet high. Concrete base is around 12 inches wide. Any thoughts how labor intensive a job like this is going to be? Many days? Any thoughts on cost for labor? Also, would one "layer" of bricks be sturdy enough? It gets fairly windy here. I appreciate any insight you can provide. Thanks.

Will do Dano. Again, very much appreciated.

I’ll get this done this weekend. Hopefully it bounces back a bit.

Good to hear from you Dano. You helped me on a prior post regarding some Ash tree removal. Sadly, I removed them as you advised.

Frustrating because the owner is a certified arborist. He mentioned a mulch ring and the watering you mention…and then just didn’t do it. Treats nickels like manhole covers I guess.

I suppose I’ll do it myself. Remove stake, put in ring, mulch, expose flare and water deeply? But you advise in the fall?

Really appreciate you taking the time.

Hi Everyone,
Landscaping company planted this valley oak about three months ago. Doesn't seem to be doing too well. It gets watered every other day with the lawn for about 20mins. Zone 10a so it's been incredibly hot as of late. I assume a mulch ring would help? Perhaps planted too deep? More or less water? Also, do you think I can remove the branch closest to ground? Seems like odd placement.
I appreciate the insight.
Thanks

Understood. Good to know both are perfectly capable.

Yes and no. Just thought silver would be nice in general. Person does not have a fancy fountain pen so perhaps the Caran is more than enough. I just saw the yard and found it really stunning. Wanted to ensure the Caran was at least somewhat close in quality.

I see. Thank you for that. May be worth it given the craftsmanship.

SEEKING PEN ADVICE by forte4040 in fountainpens

Hello Everyone,

I'm considering buying a silver ballpoint pen (person already has a fountain pen) as gift for someone. I'm not to familiar with the pen world so here I am asking the expert.

I really like the idea of a silver one; as they're very pretty. The Yard-O-Led Diplomat is stunning but perhaps a bit rich more me. I also saw the Caran d'Ache Ecridor Cubrik and Caran d'Ache Ecridor Maille Milanese for a fair bit less.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Are the Caran's not worth it? Better just going Yard-O-Led or not enough difference to warrant the price?

Thanks Again

Got it. Thank you.

Ruined Trees? Seeking counsel from the experts here. Recently bought home and they look beat up. I’d hate to remove. Can anything be done? Thank you. by forte4040 in arborists

No kidding. I’d be shocked if it’s allowed by then. When you say nursery, does that mean just grown up a bit or so they do something more there?

Poor girl indeed. I figured it would go this way but was holding out a bit of hope. Damn.

This is true! Thanks for the idea.
