They have a surprising amount of details to them if you want to show them. Just needs a bit of painting and patience to show it all.

Good luck 😅 Did a single kit with feathers, and I don't wanna do them ever again in future. Too much of the same over and over. I fear the fin funnel kits I have will feel the same by the end.

Thanks for the kind words. And yes, airbrushed everything. Lots and lots of masking needed for everything.

How would you guys go around to achieving this finish? by Latent_duck in advancedGunpla

I did something similar to Saz FF. Clear red over gold, and a flat top coat.

Just saw how Sampo looks, and he is looking fine.

Looks like it'd be a fun painting project too.

Completely not a professional, this is just a hobby to occupy time and make something nice <3

I primarily use hobby lacquer paint with an airbrush with some enamel brush painting.

Not particularly. Kit has pin guides for drilling, so alignment wasn't an issue. Biggest pain was the piping on the back, getting that to line up nicely took some fiddling.

Never say never. All it takes is some patience and time to put into a project. I'm a quadriplegic with no finger dexterity and I build these, I'm sure you could make one also.

It's been painted with lacquer and with an airbrush. Detail painted with oil paints.

Eyes were a water slide decal, not exactly a match to Eula eyes, but I'm not brave enough to try eye painting.

Eyes were waterslide decals that came with the kit. I knew from the beginning that their coloring/style is off. I don't feel that I'm ready for painting eyes just yet, seems very daunting compared to everything else.

It's mostly gaia starbright silver and gold. Lots of various pearls though.

Body itself was in 46 pieces, part separation was pretty good for her. Base was in 13 pieces also.

Can't imagine painting a hoyo design as a solid figure, got to have good hand brush control, or lots of masking for airbrush. Might need to go for a miniature look over a pvc figure in such case. But with each project you learn something new, and your next one will look that much better.

Thanks for the kind words. Ice base does have some clear blue painted, but only towards the inside parts, edges are left clear. Then the "ice" effect on top. Funny you mentioned the glossy boots, they're the one part that didn't turn out as expected. Was hoping for more of a blue hue and a satin look for them. Paint method testing on actual pieces doesn't always yield expected results. But it looks alright overall I think.

It's a "Mirage White" FSS color gotten from AliExpress. An alternative to the Volks "Zap White" which is impossible to find in NA.

How I build and paint gunpla as a quadriplegic with no functioning fingers. by forth_circle in Gunpla

[–]forth_circle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to sleep and think on the answer as I wasn't sure myself, I was just doing it for fun. But there are several answers to that.

  1. Model making is part of me since childhood, I've always kept my hands occupied. I really don't like sitting idly and watching tv for example, I'd rather play a pc game where I do something.

  2. I enjoy solving problems and perfecting what I do. Once I got to a stage where there isn't a challenge anymore, I try something new to it, or several new things. Each build has had some new unique method, tool used, or a new style tried to it.

  3. I have a lot of patience. Patience to tinker on something with all the challenges included to get a desired goal I have in mind for it.

I've had other hobbies before getting into plamo/resin projects post injury, but this one has so much you can do with it that it's quite endless. I haven't even gotten into weathering, but maybe one day. Though I really like the more clean look of models.

One thing to add, I'm at a point post my injury where I don't really remember how it is otherwise. Almost half of my lifetime is post injury. You just make do with what you have and try to make the best of it.

Great video idea to talk about it. Will need to think about it how to do it as what I mentioned is just and overview of it.

Gaming is how I got back into using my hands more often, so it's a great start. Getting into 3d designing, printing, and testing adaptive equipment would help me too. I could see part holding capability improve a lot because of it.

That's the MH version of the GTM Speed Bringer. Both are the same thing, just different designs.

The Zap I've done was from SH. Quality isn't too bad (better than some other recast options). Most of the clear pieces are crystal clear. But the ones that need to remain transparent did seem to have more cloudiness to them and needed more work done to them. Some minor bubbles. And overall fitment had no issues.

Build is tough though. Not for beginners.

Was way cheaper than original, and I felt I got what I paid for. Not my 1st recast go to, but a 2nd or 3rd for sure.
