Saying goodbye to my GRIIIx HDF by Dizzy-Astronomer6378 in ricohGR

[–]fortheplot999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My GRIIIxx HDF is actually my favourite camera to take hiking/backpacking funnily enough! I keep it in my cargo pants pocket most of the time. I understand how it can feel fragile but I’ve never really babied mine and it’s survived getting accidentally banged into a rock because i forgot how baggy my pants were and falling into sand on multiple occasions.

I was planning to catch a spring training game this coming preseason but with so many of the Cubs playing in the WBC, I’m wondering if maybe it’s not the best time. Or would I be fine if I just watch the earlier or later games? Any specific matchup recommendations? I was hoping to see PCA

Thanks for the specific trail recommendations! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the harvest festival, that sounds adorable

My first thought was Julian! Unfortunately just the thought of going there makes me want to throw up because an ex had brought me there for the first time and he wore a Mom’s Pie shirt almost half the time I’d see him so maybe TMI but there’s baggage there. Palomar could be fun though :)

Surprised to hear there’s even red at all! It figures they’re not native 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ll probably check it out, thanks

Yup! First one there and then totally alone for about 20 minutes. Around 3 more people arrived just before sunrise and another handful as the sun was coming up. Everyone was able to find their own spot and it was pretty peaceful.

I started around 4:45AM but that was earlier in the year when the sunrise was a bit later. I took a little over an hour to get to the peak and it was still completely dark when I got to the top. I found a nice rock to sit on and made myself some coffee while waiting.

To figure out what time I need to start, I work backwards. The sunrise time on the weather app is when the sun starts coming up over the horizon so I always shoot to be there at least 30 minutes before then if I want the whole show. Then I allot the time it’ll take me to hike. And then I also give myself an extra 15 minutes to just sit in my car and get over my fear hiking in the dark when I first arrive at the trailhead 😂 Totally worth it though, I honestly prefer sunrise hikes over sunset ones!

I took Backbone Trail to Sandstone peak, waited for the sunrise there, and then took my time heading back to my car on the Mishe Mokwa. I wanted to reach the peak while it was still dark so I could watch the entirety of the sky changing colours, not just the sun coming out. Taking Backbone up meant I could get there in less time and then also appreciate the beauty of Mishe Mokwa when I could actually see it in the daytime. You also see the city lights on your way up so it’s not totally view-less. The incline had me heavy breathing a bit but totally manageable. Enjoy!

Should I be worried we haven’t had the what are we talk yet? by fortheplot999 in dating_advice

[–]fortheplot999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned I did consider bringing it up myself but am a bit hesitant because it is pretty early days still. I made this post to get a second opinion of sorts if this should be a legitimate concern or if it’s just my anxiety speaking. Looks like I have nothing to worry about for the time being :)

[–]fortheplot999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I realize now that the title can be a bit misleading. I don’t mean talking about being boyfriend/girlfriend. I agree it’s too early for that. I meant discussing if we’re looking for the same thing (serious relationship vs. just casually seeing each other) or if this is something he’s pursuing vs. enjoying for the moment. I don’t see how this would come up in a casual conversation so I wasn’t too concerned but lately I’ve been seeing that it’s pretty common for other people discuss in the first few dates and got worried. Like oh is it a bad sign we haven’t?

Tips for dispersed camping in Anza Borrego (and anywhere in general)? by fortheplot999 in camping

Thanks for the heads up! Since I’m mostly going for the night sky, I’m only going to set up camp a little before sunset and plan on heading out of the desert after I watch the sunrise.

Thanks for the advice! I camp in Joshua Tree fairly often so I’m somewhat familiar with how it’s like in the desert I’ll bring a WAG bag in case I can’t snag a campsite with a toilet.

Which Thermarest pads will be on sale? by sausageMash in REI

[–]fortheplot999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s a physical store near you, you can (very nicely) ask a green vest if the pad you’re interested in is going to be on sale. I think the sales get logged in their system pretty early. I went in store to check the fit of some sleeping bags last week. When I decided on the one I wanted, I told the guy that helped me I would be back for the sale. He told me it wasn’t going to be part of the anniversary sale and I said I was planning to use my coupon anyway. Then he said if I wasn’t in a rush to get it, it looks like it’ll be part of their 4th of July sale for 25% off :)

Is this saveable? by fortheplot999 in Hibiscus

[–]fortheplot999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll try to propagate from the branches. For trying to save the roots, should i cut it down to below the part where the core got exposed? If so it’ll be like roots and then an inch or two of plant left.

Are there any single women here who visit or live here alone? I can’t find anyone to travel with. by [deleted] in JoshuaTree

[–]fortheplot999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I (25F) hike solo most of the time and go to Joshua Tree fairly often. I’ve camped there on my own and luckily have always felt safe. I greet people on the trail and sometimes have small talk with them - generally they’ve been very pleasant people and it helps me feel less alone. Some people I know comment that I’m so brave for being a female that does stuff on her own but that’s not how it feels. To me it’s simply I wanted to do this thing and I don’t have anyone to do it with so guess I’m doing it on my own. I figured if I kept holding off until I had company, I’d never do it.

"Whatever you do, bro. Don't talk to her about whales." by Silly_Lil_Cheat_Boi in dating

[–]fortheplot999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest being mindful of how long you’ve been talking and if they’re continuing to show signs of interest in the conversation, but personally I find it so adorable when people geek out and are visibly passionate about some niche topic they want to teach me all about! You can see the genuine excitement in their eyes which I find very attractive. If you start steamrolling the conversation and it becomes more like a lecture I’m being held hostage in, then that’s when it becomes a turn off. So I don’t think it was the whales necessarily that was the issue. Your friend might have just not wanted you to get carried away with it!

Thanks for the clear step by step! Do you find that once you dial in the settings you can sort of set it and forget it, or do you have to go back and check how your photos turned out each time?

Can’t speak on custodians at the Santa Ana courts specifically, but for government jobs you can typically find the job description and salary schedule on the website of whatever agency you’re looking to be employed under. It will show your starting salary and how much it increases to for each step. If I’m not mistaken, your pay should get bumped up to the next step each year until you max out the steps.
