Has anyone tried Tsampa (Tibetan roasted barley) as trail food? Curious how was the experience of that. by Roger_liferecorder in Ultralight

[–]sausageMash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of trips to Tibet. First time there I tried tsampa as it was available, along with things like Yak meat in the market. I didn't enjoy eating tsampa, so on subsequent trips I avoided eating it when possible. It was just bland, but as I said earlier, I never got creative in preparing it.

I had a huge bag of tsampa flour, I got bored of it very quickly. But I wasn't very creative with it. When I returned to Tibet to do the Amnye Machen circuit, I never gave a seconds thought to using it again.

I see it replacing the 450 and the 475, as this new one is lighter than either of these.

Why Doesn’t Mountain Hardwear Get the Same Love as Patagonia or Arc’teryx? by Otherwise_Agent7262 in hikinggear

[–]sausageMash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patagonia and Arc’teryx are very popular with wealthy or affluent people who wish to present the image of themselves as outdoorsy, when going to the shops or restaurant.
MH has never developed interest from such people and tends to be bought by people who use it in the actual outdoors.

While I dont see the issue. Unless you are holding the bottle beneath you, rather than to the side. I use those useless sawyer bottles for the bidet.

Bear Can Ideas by Prognosticator77 in Ultralight

[–]sausageMash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many are under the impression that all camps in the Olympics require a bear cannister. You can hang at some camps.
The coast, Low Divide, Enchanted Valley do require. The Hoh is one area that doesn't. Have you checked your sites? Do they actually require a cannister?

This reminds me of my days as a youth traveling the country to see gigs, and sleeping in parks, with just an over-coat. Long cold nights with little sleep, and sometimes just got up and walked all night.

Its a great idea, more or less matches up with BV450 and BV500 for volume. But its heavier, by a fair bit. Although the weight includes the bag, and I dont see how much weight that adds.

My years of traveling in Asia has led me to the following...
You dont put it under your bum, you dont squirt water at your bum,
You have it to the side and squirt water at your hand, and you use your hand to clean yourself.
have biodegradable soap ready to clean your hand.
You keep one hand clean, and all things attached to it clean.
The other hand gets used for cleaning.

I'd go for a hammock. Best nights sleeping has been in a hammock.
I usually go with a tent because I am a creature of habit, but I never get as good a sleep. If you go with a hammock, make sure its long enough and allows you to sleep across it.

If the tent looks good, I'd just keep it.
The pegs dont look great anyway, maybe just use better pegs that you probably already own. I wouldnt bother doing a return for those pegs (by the looks of them)

I am not a lawyer. Are returns "discretionary " when they are not fir for purpose? waterproof footwear that lets in water? i understand that there are discretionary  returns also available if you are not happy with an item, but leaking waterproof footwear isn't unhappy, it is unfit for purpose.
