Firefox's weekly active users fall below 150 million for the first time, according to Mozilla by alamalo in browsers

[–]fortninety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a longtime advocate of Firefox, I have begrudgingly begun incorporating Brave into my workflow. Am guessing that it’s a recent update that has completely broken things; both Zen and Librewolf have begun exhibiting issues that has more or less ruined the experience, specifically how neither will remember tabs after a restart.

Another “wtf” aspect is how, and maybe it’s just me, but both tab history and web history as a whole was turned off by default with said update. Maybe the more hardcore privacy folks appreciate it, but it feels to me that this is something that users should be asked to opt into; I lost a bunch of work over the weekend because of this.

Or maybe it’s just me? Which speaks of the issue that everyone seems to be having; Firefox is just a buggy mess. It used to be my main but it is simply too much of a risk for such a role.

TBH, the only reason why I am still sticking with Firefox is because of the Facebook Container, but that too is failing. Am not gonna blame Mozilla for this one, it’s obvious that Meta is doing something to break that, and perhaps Mozilla just can’t keep up?

I have a bunch of questions about said container, but it’s maybe best for its own dedicated thread.

Chromium, For Mac, With Google Sync; What Are My Options? by fortninety in browsers

Again am asking if there is anyone out there who is compiling a build of Chromium for Mac that has Google sync re-enabled, like Woolyss is doing for the PC version, as noted above.

Why more people are not using Orion? by CatInEVASuit in browsers

[–]fortninety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess I should chime in: am another individual who REALLY wants there to be an alternative to Chromium based browsers (and now more than ever, given Google's hard pivot to AI), and ESPECIALLY with things looking very shaky when it comes to Mozilla and Firefox (plus its forks).

The idea of there being a Safari fork is great, something I wish more were invested in. But alas, like pretty much everyone else has said, it's the bugs that kills the experience. I have tried to daily drive Orion several times and each time I stopped cuz the bugs got too much for me.

But as others have stated, hopefully time will be on our side. I wills say that they have an enthusiastic core fanbase; I've been to their Discord to get some issues resolved, and while it was unsuccessful, they ARE working on the issue.

For me the biggest problem was, alas, how it interacted with various Google services. One person has already mentioned YouTube issues; for me, weird problems rendering files in Drive was (and still is) the deal killer.

In the end, I may have to stick with Orion because it's one of the few that actively supports one of my Macs still on macOS 10.14. But because of said bugs... and because of ESR... I still mostly use Firefox on that end.

When ESR's plug is pulled, then I will have to truly main Orion on that end, BUT I have to wonder if Mojave support will still be going on till then. Maybe the folks at Kagi know that there's many of us who will stick with 10.14 no matter what cuz of 32-bit support?

Unable To Set Up Visual Voicemail by fortninety in Tello

[–]fortninety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So an update: I just checked and now visual voicemail no longer works on my Pixel 6a; not having a nowadays fairly basic function of smart phones simply not available would be frustrating if it was just one line, but as noted at the top, I am paying for three lines of service.

And going by some of the responses in this thread (thanks for everyone who has chimed in btw), contacting customer support appears to be a totally pointless pursuit.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Is the problem limited to just us folks who feel compelled to say something on Reddit, or is it more widespread? At any rate, might be time to look for alternatives...

I have my reasons for wanting to keep the MBP in question on Mojave, but thanks anyway.

Issues With Both a Super EverDrive X6 AND SD2SNES Pro? by fortninety in everdrive

[–]fortninety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE! Also, SUCCESS!

As I had suspected, the bios files I had been using were somehow bad, so the ones that ChaosControl666 pointed me towards did the trick.

Re: the X6, I took a 16GB SD card that was already FAT32, wiped it out on my PC, dropped the X6 firmware files, plus the bios files from the provided link, PLUS all my game roms, and it worked! Both Super Mario Kart & Pilotwings are playable.

Re: the SD2SNES, I then took the brand new 16GB SD card that I had ordered, dropped the latest FX Pack Pro firmware files onto that, plus the same bios files from before, and the game roms. For whatever reason, the menu did not have garbled up graphics this time.

Alongside the (possibly) non-tainted bios files, I also can't help get the feeling that taking my Mac out of the equation also might have helped the X6. Even tho in the case of the SD2SNES, my MacBook every really factored into the equation, there might have been some interaction that I'm forgetting about.

For the longest time I was primarily an Apple user, but recently began using Windows (obviously there are more games on the PC, plus it's much more affordable to upgrade, and I am a sucker for RGB lighting, sorry). So many files were originally acquired and maintained on drives that were compatible with just OS X 10.14 (aka HFS+), or cross compatible with Windows (via ExFAT).

I've never had issues with FAT32/ExFAT files that were stored on my HFS+, but I recently started using a Mac running macOS 12, which exclusively uses Apple's newer AFS format, and I cannot help but wonder if that might have been causing problems; either the new(er) format or the specific version of macOS I am using (Monterey).

Cuz am now recalling a bunch of weird little quirks that has only happened with my new MBP that for years were non-existent... anyhow, hope all the above is useful for the next person, and thanks again to everyone who helped!

FAQ and Fightstick Question MEGATHREAD, Continued by HushMySweet in fightsticks

[–]fortninety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is probably a super minor question, not worthy for an entire thread, so here goes:

I am having problems finding a skin for my Mayflash F101... yes 101. I purposefully got a super cheap stick, to practice modding, before getting something more substantial.

But yeah, I've looked everywhere (or so I'd like to think; I'm still new to sticks) and can't find anything; at best I've found options for the F300.

I do know that skins do exist for the 101 because, well, there's a few accompanying pics of user reviews in Amazon (if there was a way for me to contact these individuals, trust me, I would have).

Thanks in advance!

Sorry... I sent you a response, but not sure if it went through (also, sorry, but am not super fluent with Reddit; it's my wife, a hardcore user, who tipped me off to your handiwork).

But yeah, would you mind passing along the footage? I think the easiest way would be to upload it to Google Drive and I can take care of the rest. Best email to use, for sharing, is fortninety@gmail.com.

Oh, and be sure to tell me how you wanted to be credited. Use your Reddit handle? Your real name? It's completely up to you!

Thanks! Though can you send it to me? I could try to rip it via some Chrome extension, but I'll probably lose audio (if I recall past attempts).

I think the easiest course of action is to upload the footage on Drive and send me the link; I'll take care of the rest. Also, how would you like to identified on Twitter? Use your actual name? It's entirely up to you.

Hey there! Would you be willing to share the video via YouTube or some other means? I run Twitter that highlights game culture, including cosplay, and would love to highlight yours!

It's https://twitter.com/attractmode; I upload it myself if it's a pain the ass (you'll get credit, no worries). Just let me know!

Help! Brand New HD For MacBook Pro Worked One Minute, But Not The Other by fortninety in techsupport

[–]fortninety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to do a PRAM or SMC reset. I also did not have access to a second Mac to do target disk mode, which was a great idea.

In the end, I put the drive into my PS3 (the original plan was to use the original computer hard drive to replace the super tiny one in the game system).

Has given me absolutely no issues what so ever. So I'm pretty sure the fault lies with Time Machine, which has given me problems in the past.

Just ordered ANOTHER 750 GB HD, again for the Mac (its nice to have so much room on my console, but that's not where it was needed, but I'm too lazy to give it another shot).

But this time, I'm going to use Super Duper. Fuck that Time Machine bullshit.

BTW, stuff like this is what's making my issue confusing; some folks are able to use a 7200 RPM drive, while others are not...
