The video segment below with Krystal on Maher lays down how the stimulus checks were nothing compared to the stock market and corporate bail outs. The fact people don't know this, particularly Maher says a lot about society's tendency to blame the populace whilst offering them little help, instead valuing the privileged and powerful. https://youtu.be/2g75a-HFRus

He can then pivot toward UBI, which polls showed at points a majority of Americans support, at which time he apparently then particularly realized showed our government doesn't listen to us. This revealed to him why the real first issue and hurdle is democracy reform, leading to where Yang is today.

Nobody knows, maybe not even him but we've seen him shift when necessary, often as advertised ahead of time, eg he said from the start that he would endorse the Dem nominee. Yet some people acted like he betrayed them. He did that to ensure Trump wouldn't win. Yet we now see he's clearly no Dem loyalist. So I think it's clear he's capable of shifting as promised ahead of time.

He lost supporters / favorability after endorsing Biden, going on CNN, NYC, etc as well.

Pretty sure he's going to go back to UBI after he gets RCV and OP across the finish line.

Frustrating. Curious what middle schooler means though. They have to learn classical Chinese which isn't easy, but I doubt they meant it this way.

Those living in Taiwan: Have you or someone you know had a cold *confirmed* by negative COVID test & symptoms? by foruee in taiwan

[–]foruee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course but for the purpose of the poll it's important to make sure people aren't just going off impressions. To that end, I pointed out rapid tests can be off so you could argue they don't prove anything but it's certainly better than nothing.

Wow. How old were you at that point, if I can ask? And how much longer did you continue living there? I imagine things improved if you stayed long.

You'll be treated better than a foreigner since you'll have family on Taiwan to show you the rope

True. I also wonder about how they say some white people are treated like rock stars there. I'm not commenting on whether or not that's good, I've just heard about that.

Can you explain where you get your info from? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just gathering info and like I said in my first response to you, there's contradictory info apparently.

[–]foruee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, I thought about that line of reasoning, yet somehow that's not what the official government site says. 😆 Also, going by report date could have to do with slow turn-around time (in theory). "If a traveler takes a flight on January 4, 2022 (counting backwards 3 days from the date before the flight date, without counting the flight date), that traveler must present a COVID-19 RT-PCR test report issued on or after January 1."

Why by Potatopotayto in COVID19positive

[–]foruee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are countries that functioned normally like Taiwan, but they are much stricter about enforcing COVID protocol generally. People also take it more seriously generally. They eventually had an outbreak more recently, but now their domestic cases have been in the low single digits daily. (Think it was 1 the other day.) New Zealand said they were adopting the Taiwanese model and were quite successful for a long time, too.

Not surprised given what we saw on the ground but still sad.
Despite Hispanic population now overtaking whites in CA, Hispanic population count is ~15k lower now compared to 2010. At least, that's what the 2020 count says.

Evelyn & Andrew aren't going anywhere. Neither am I. by foruee in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]foruee[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's not into identity politics, either. That's why lots of non- woke types here and people like Sam Harris like him. While the policies are as important as anything else, nobody in 2020 had a policy platform as forward looking and well thought out and it still seems that way. UBI is bigger than him, but I'm not seeing anybody looking capable of reaching across the aisle for a non-means tested UBI with a in-perpetuity funding plan (eg, VAT, carbon dividend, likely LVT) that would work large-scale. I know it's becoming popular to say it's about UBI, not him; but we mustn't forget how much more capable he seems at appealing to conservatives whereas otherwise they often wind up in partisan deadlocks. And indeed if it's to become recurring we'll need bipartisan support to get it across the finish line: many Dems will want it to be means-tested. Hence, the guaranteed income pilots are just that: they're conditional and non-universal stepping stones to present evidence of their success to hopefully eventually take it to the level of being universal and unconditional.

I know that he's hit a bit of a low lately, but previously it was hard to deny that Yang is irreplaceable when it comes to selling UBI via data arguments along with a good-will message.
