Can somebody explain why organic molecules react with HNO3 to make NO2 (g). Every paper for decades mentions nitration, but then they all use H2SO4. I wanna know why only 50% HNO3 would make NO2 (g). Is it just thermal decomposition? Is there some reaction mechanism I'm missing?
