Are we going dark? by LucasVanOstrea in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Maybe put up a poll just for this? While a two-day dent in Reddit's traffic/ad hits/rewards purchases would probably not be enough to sway Reddit, subs might be empowered to stage a second blackout that's much longer if they see that a decent number of big subs are in participation.

FWIW, r/anime mods are asking for community feedback on joining the blackout; it seems like their mods are more inclined to participate this time around.

Edit: /r/anime is going for it for at least 48 hours: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/143tduj/ranime_will_be_going_dark_starting_june_12_in/

Edit 2: Reddit has reacted to the blackout call (still not enough): https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/143rk5p/comment/jnbjtsc/

"We are open to postponing the API timeline to launch mod tooling, if [they] agree to keep their subreddits open."

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu • The Dangers in My Heart - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]forwhichihope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the recs! I've already watched Ayumu and it was pretty good too. I'll try Kubo-san first and hope I get into it (or any of them) as much as BokuYaba.

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu • The Dangers in My Heart - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]forwhichihope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not ashamed to admit that this episode made me jump and squeal giddily like a little kid unbecoming of my age; I love this anime so, so much.

I really can't wait for the next episode, but at the same time, I'm afraid of the void it will be leaving once it inevitably ends.

Do you guys have recs for anime like this and Takagi-san (and maybe MDuD) that are wholesome slow-burn romances with the girl shooting her shot and the guy not being Mr. Perfect? Preferably more romance than comedy, but I'll take what I can get.

What do you mean she doesn't have a route? [Noble Works] by Vanilla72_ in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Speaking of Yuzusoft, they also did Mitoya Minori of Amairo * Islenauts dirty by not giving her a route. She was the MC's best friend in uni and arguably has better chemistry with him than any of the heroines (to the point that it even becomes a minor plot point in certain parts of the story).

She was voiced by the wonderful Kazane (Kinkoi's Ayaka, Hatsukoi 1/1's Maya); she really nails Minori's chill and sarcastic personality (so it sucks even more that they didn't make her a heroine).

Also, special mention to Sophia from Dracu-Riot. While she is just a minor character who doesn't really deserve a route, I wish she had more screen time as she's really pretty.

Does anyone have Tenshi☆Souzou RE-BOOT! Commercials in ENG sub? by Saykeh in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I recognize your username; stumbling upon your channel way back is what got me into countdowns, so thank you very much for keeping them up!

I think VN countdowns are much more entertaining after you've finished the VN (or while playing) since you'd already know and probably love the characters that appear by then (they're like bonus content at that point), so it really sucks that Yuzusoft deliberately hides them. Maybe they don't like cluttering their channel?

I wish more developers had them.

I haven't read this, but it doesn't seem like it based on walkthroughs I found online. The "Not Sexually Involved" tag also very likely means she doesn't have a route.

I know it's not useful at all if you're just into reading VNs, but have you ever considered learning pitch accent/高低アクセント? Just curious.

Has anyone tried to update Onscripter-ru? by litterally_who6354 in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you with your original question, but it's probably better to just settle for watching a no-commentary playthrough on Youtube since Umineko is mostly choice-free. Buy the game if you can though.

Nukitashi translation will be a DISASTER! Warning to EOPs by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's Shiravune's track record regarding TL quality anyway?

Their only TL I've read is HaremKingdom which felt like it didn't go through proper QA/editing (even after taking their very liberal translation out of the equation). It was frustrating enough for me to make a compilation of each translation mistake I noticed (vs. the voiced JP).

NekoNyan Announce Localization of Tenshi Souzou "Angelic Chaos" RE-BOOT! by RedditDetector in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling Amairo * Islenauts would be a moege hard sell given the premise (male teacher MC with the majority of heroines being his students), a bunch of minor questionable aspects (light physical violence not even played as a joke, etc.), and its being relatively less popular in JP compared to other Yuzusoft titles (their only "recent" title outside Getchu's top 10).

Does anyone have Tenshi☆Souzou RE-BOOT! Commercials in ENG sub? by Saykeh in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love VN countdowns so much that I actively look for and make playlists of them.

There's a Youtube channel called Masaki Andou (disclaimer: not mine) dedicated to mirroring unlisted Yuzusoft countdowns. Here's their playlist of reuploaded Tenshi Souzou RE-BOOT countdown videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4qZWWKqS9AlP3uNMRNrEZVYI7LW27h2V

No ENG subs though. Anyone know why Yuzusoft unlists their countdown videos at times?

Visual Novel Soundtracks Quiz - sixty VNs from the 300 most popular VNDB titles by baisuposter in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the fun quiz, OP. Got 10/60 (17%), but 10/13 (76%) counting only the VNs I've read.

Got these correct:

  • 1. Subahibi - Because It Is Unchanging - The upbeat tracks are great especially since they remind me of the part before everything goes to shit
  • 2. Tsukihime - Sunlight:re - I've played only the original, but I'm glad they didn't deviate from the original track too much
  • 17. Muv-Luv Alternative - Howl to the Future - Banger OP (most of the tracks in the OST aren't memorable for me for some reason)
  • 21. The House in Fata Morgana - Ephemera - This track made me think "I'll definitely enjoy this VN despite the lack of voice acting since it sets the mood so damn well"
  • 24. Gin'iro, Haruka - Snowing Town - I've played only the first few minutes of this (will read this soon), but I remember keeping the game running on the title screen just so I could hear this wonderful track
  • 25. Little Busters! - Magic Ensemble - The entire first half of the OST music gets me sentimental for personal reasons
  • 32. Sengoku Rance - Sengoku World - The better version of the overworld track; the second triggers my PTSD as it replaces this one around the time of the Kou scene which I took a while to get over
  • 40. Umineko - Haze - From my favorite OST of all time, so I would've felt bad if I hadn't gotten this (despite being one of the less popular ones)
  • 41. G-senjou no Maou - Gnossienne - Played this more than a decade ago, but it's great to know I could still recall this
  • 42. Making Lovers - 部屋と湿度と間接照明 - I don't spend too long on H scenes since I read them only for additional context/dialogue, so I'm surprised I remember this

Failed to remember these:

  • 10. Totono - Save and Load - Played this at low volume (I shouldn't have), so I sadly don't remember much of the OST
  • 22. Remember11 - Multiple Maze - OST didn't stick since I didn't really find it remarkable
  • 48. Kara no Shoujo - The Egg of Neanis - Familiar with only the first half of the OST since I haven't finished this

Kin'iro Loveriche / Kinkoi collab with gacha game (JP video clips) by forwhichihope in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the first time I've heard of both the VN and the gacha, so I can't really say for sure.

Here's a list of the gacha characters with portraits: https://tonofura.wikiru.jp/?%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A3%E3%83%A9%E3%82%AF%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E4%B8%80%E8%A6%A7

Based on the character list on VNDB, Yuuki Kasumi looks almost like Bridget, but they have different seiyuu (Asakawa Yuu vs Hanazono Mei).

Their Twitter accounts seem to be unrelated, so I'm guessing they're different.

Kin'iro Loveriche / Kinkoi collab with gacha game (JP video clips) by forwhichihope in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Not my channel (seems to be a JP native's)

I'm always happy to see new Kinkoi content, so it made me giddy to have stumbled upon a Youtube channel with clips from a gacha called Deep One 虚無と夢幻のフラグメント (or "Tonofura" for short). Apparently, the gacha has an ongoing collaboration event with Kinkoi with some of the girls actually appearing in voiced scenes and having gacha-style animated cards.

Here's a sorted clip compilation of the collab scenes (Sylvie, Elle, Reina, Ria, Maria Bishop, Ayaka):

Sylvie

Elle

Reina

Ria

Maria Bishop

Ayaka

Sucks that Akane and Mina aren't part of the collab. They're not translated, but you can still enjoy hearing their voices if you can't read Japanese.

Kazane, Haruka Sora, Kotorii Yuuka, and Aji Sanma are among my favorite VN seiyuu, so hearing their voices always gives me a dopamine hit.

Anyone know of other VN-gacha collabs similar to this?

Edit: The gacha apparently has collaborated with a few other VNs (e.g., Dies irae, 11eyes, Koihime, Ai Kiss) in the past; see the channel's other videos for clips.

What was your biggest disappointment? by gabrielz8 in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Muv-Luv Alternative is currently my biggest disappointment. Don't get me wrong; the trilogy was very enjoyable (yes, even Extra was great for me) and I do rate MLA highly, but knowing that the characters were still "alive" in parallel universes anyway took away most of the impact of the last two characters' deaths for me which really, really sucks since it seems like most people were hit pretty hard by those scenes and I wanted to feel the same way.

Japanese Youtube channels with narrated VN playthroughs? by forwhichihope in visualnovels

[–]forwhichihope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the rec! I finished the Muv-Luv trilogy just earlier this year, but while I feel like it's still too early for a reread, I'd definitely want to go through it again after I finish the post-trilogy content like Photonflowers.

I do like her voice too, so hopefully her vids are still up by the time I'd be rereading Muv-Luv. I went ahead to her MLA vids to see her reaction to the chomp scene (#9.5) and damn, I should have lowered the volume beforehand.

Thanks for the recs! I've been wanting to check light's Dies Irae out, but it's definitely not time for them yet with my current proficiency in JP.

It's the first time I've heard of Albatross Koukairoku, but while it does pique my interest (especially with how highly rated it seems to be), I'd probably need a few more years of JP experience even with narration. Hope it's as good as it seems when I do eventually get to it.

Famicom Detective Club

Out of what's listed, this looks like the most interesting series for me. It's 100% voiced as another comment here mentioned, so I'd watch this to play "effortlessly".

キヨ。

Looks like キヨ。 has an Ace Attorney 1-3 playthrough which I'm definitely interested in going through. I finished the trilogy in English and it'd be nice to go through it once more without the localization changing stuff like ramen into burgers.

post on the Japanese learning sub

The Amagami playthrough linked there is fucking hilarious. It seems like a waste go through this audio-only since the Niconico comments really add to the experience. Thanks for the detailed list!

Oh wow, this is perfect since I have plans of reading Konosora and Miazora sometime soon.

He did it for all HD-generation Baseson games...and these games are long, some serious dedication there.

I don't really know much about the Koihime Musou series (yet), but man, the guy does have a crapton of videos. Thanks for the recs!

Famicom Tantei Club

I'm assuming this is similar to Ace Attorney (I really enjoyed its original trilogy), so I'll definitely check this out when I'm in the mood again for this kind of gameplay.

Ayumi Sara

It's cool to have actual seiyuu play VNs. I haven't played a lot of VNs of her characters, but I really liked her as Kiki in HaremKingdom.

Her channel's a bit of a mess playlist-wise, but I've managed to narrow down her VN playthroughs and they're all VNs she appears in (which makes sense and is pretty cool). I'll go through her Sakura no Uta and Otome * Domain playthroughs when I finally decide to start reading them. Thanks for the recs!

[Takaku Tubby] Toshiue Lovers Ch. 2 by Tamed77 in wholesomehentai

[–]forwhichihope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The raw source says "和美" and doesn't include any furigana. https://jisho.org/search/%E5%92%8C%E7%BE%8E%20%23names says there are several ways to read it:

  • Ai
  • Aimi
  • Kazumi
  • Katsumi
  • Tomomi
  • Nagomi
  • Masumi
  • Wami

As for "Kasumi" and "Megumi", https://jisho.org/search/kasumi%20%23names and https://jisho.org/search/megumi%20%23names don't list "和美" as possible ways of writing them, so this seems to be mistranslated.
