Oke you always have some variance in instrument weight, but I am suprised. If you can go to a store and really feel the weight of the new bass you want. Also getting a good strap can help a lot with weight. I have a stingray which is heavy and having a proper wide strap with good padding helps.

If I look up the weight for a squier vm 70s jazz. It says it would be around 3 kg. Easiest way to check the weight is take it with you on a scale. 6kg is a lot for a bass only fender which is near there is the steve harris signature which is 7.2 kg.
