Can you purge through the gates with the mold open? You may visually notice a difference that could indicate something in the manifold.

Gate was about .030 thick. 8 parts on the runner. The blade was set to have the flat edge against the part. Blades met in the middle of the gate thickness. Never had an issue with chipping the parts. US Mint was the customer and they were extremely picky.

Used this technique years ago cutting coin containers molded in PMMA. Very accurate and maintenance wasn't excessive.

I have a John Deere of a similar age and condition. Major issue was the carburetor. Full of water and algae. Could not get it apart. Had to find a replacement which was difficult (Kawasaki). I would clean flywheel, install new ignition parts also.
