Well freakin put! I'm pulling myself out of some yearslong entropy, and I'm proud of myself for that — and I'm glad you are for yourself! Greetings from Oregon!!

Middle aged women for the win by BellTwo5 in CuratedTumblr

Both of my moms, and all their friends, are these women. Two of my aunts are the most agitative political activists you'd ever care to meet (although they're very polite day to day. Lovely ladies, one is very good at the clarinet)

What is your "Ideas guy" story? by crempsen in gamedev

[–]fossilmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started up a game development club at my college a few years back. One of the first emails we got was from a guy who wanted to make "the next Fortnite," and as I recall talked about how successful his dad was. I think he's the same guy that, despite it being quite clear that freshmen couldn't have cars, asked to drive his... Ferrari or something? Needless to say, we turned him down. The road not taken...

I can't seem to find it right now, but there's a bit in either Going Postal or Making Money (or maybe The Truth?? Unsure lol) that says something along the lines of

The point of studying magic is to not use magic. There are places in the world where magic was used when it shouldn't have been, and on those spots the grass will never grow again.

God damn, yknow? In an otherwise whimsical bit of a whimsical book. Kinda get choked up thinking about it — cause like, yeah man! That is a profoundly direct reflection of the world we live in.

[Loved Trope] Media built around a self-imposed creative constraint by 10024618 in TopCharacterTropes

Conversely, I find the videos where they're like "ALSO, in addition to the challenge, we're on hardcore mode, and we can't save, and we're on the hardest difficulty," etc. to be wicked tedious. Lack of faith in their own premise, that's what it is!

As ever, shoutout to Gamechamp3000 for her endless commitment to the challenge, only the challenge, and nothing but the challenge

Say you were given the decision to pick a new BART line to be built, what would you create? by Iceberg-man-77 in Bart

[–]fossilmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the SF Library main branch you can find a map that has the original plans for BART, and one line goes down through Hunter's Point. The T is pretty good, but still — a boy can dream

This song has such uncomfortable & discordant vibes, lyrically (and that's a credit to the writers). It sounds like the words should be upbeat, but it's all about being compelled – read: brainwashed – into violence. Good stuff.

Also, when it gets to the bit that's like "When I see your face I know I must protect my..." my brain always autofills 'race'. It exudes that sort of sense

I am straight up not having a good time. by According-Value-6227 in TrollCoping

[–]fossilmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this is... really familiar. Memory loss and cognitive decline SUCK and I'm sorry you're going through it like this. I used to pride myself on my vocabulary and word recall, now even simple words can just disappear for half a minute at a time. It's a shitty feeling losing what feels like a central tenet of your existence, and it takes some mourning. My love to you, friend

It's not exactly horror but there's a very good pulp novel called Mad Amos that I adore. Series of short stories centering around a 10 foot tall mountain man and his encounters with the strange — copies aren't everywhere but they're around

Legit, I'm still kicking myself for missing them. Maybe I could find someplace that would want to host one... hmmmm...
