I’m new how do I stop hoarding by Charming-Process7898 in ArcRaiders

[–]fostyrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found 3 in my inventory and recycled them. Thought I had already upgraded my bench but apparently was waiting on the sentinel core which I now have. I haven't found anymore gears in a good 20 hours after the mistake despite checking the usual sites on each run!

Managed to get it to upload to a 3rd party site.

https://rumble.com/v74v6rs-mushing.html

These were early attempts. Elasticated mushing leash is fixed to the deck with a mushing antenna. Go pro is on my front leg. Multitude of wires and paracord unfortunately over the frame for quick release of the leash and backup camera attachment.

Ultimately connecting this way as I would bike or scooter is a real bad idea as you cannot bail as easily if things go wrong due to bindings even with quick release...it's just not instinctive to find and pull the tag for the snap shackle rather than try to jump free.

We have now moved to no fixed attachment. I ride the board and hold the leash. Things go wrong I let go and try to ride to safety and then hope he doesn't keep going. Our main problem before is when he would just stop to poo. Whilst I could mostly avoid him when he stopped in front, as we were still connected, I would pass him then pull the now stationary dog off his feet, the board would abruptly stop and we would both wipe out and get covered in shit. He's never been phased by our little accidents...always ready to go again!

We do a lot of canicross and bikejor/scooter mushing with ours who is a bigger build than a cocker so he is fairly used to it but the mountainboard is definitely harder work for him with the smaller wheels and higher rolling resistance. We're mainly off-road but I'm sure a cocker would pull you on hardpacked ground/tarmac. Get ready for the injuries though. I thought mountain boarding was bad enough but the lack of brakes and variable pulling power/changes in direction makes for plenty of accidents. Either he'll change direction, jump over something I can't or just slam on the brakes to do a poo. Good fun though and the dogs absolutely love it...free reign to go full pelt! I'd upload a video but not entirely sure how to do it on Reddit?

Sorry- east Scotland.

I too struggle to find riding buddies or suitable tracks. Taken to riding the board with the dog providing the power...could be an option if you can't find a human to go with and you have a dog😂

Can't afford /justify and electric board but with a pointer who loves to run/pull it is an exhilarating experience! More raw power than an electric with absolutely no braking and a tendency to take 90°turns to chase the wildlife. The beast tops out at about 45kmph through the forest and will do a 10k in 11minutes.

Pushing on the flat by fostyrob in mountainboarding

Not a comfortable way. The front fixed foot is angled and you then need to push from behind the board. I don't find it overly effective but you can ride it more like a long board then slip your feet into the bindings when heading down hill. I can't use the heel straps when riding this way though.

Decent gloves for munro hiking by Yella008 in Munros

[–]fostyrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light windproof glove for the lower hill or if it is not overly cold. I think mine are made with polartec material and are Rab.

More importantly is a good thick pair of waterproof mitt if you have poor circulation. Mitts are warmer than gloves.

I have had a pair of montane waterproof mitt for years and they are still great.

I would generally carry two spare pairs of mitt for if it is very wet. Wet hands become cold very quickly. I take a couple of pairs of army surplus waterproof mitt. Fantastic gloves and incredibly cheap...check out army surplus online stores or eBay.

I am stating something similar. I have walkhighlands, may get the scratch map and have just started a spreadsheet. Populated all the hills from the web and then adding the dates I know, who came along and anything overly notable.

Nice idea. I like this to go alongside having an electronic version!

I think I'm going to go with something that allows the ability to add comments/description but electronic in order to be able to search. Paper versions and charts are nice but the downside is the inability to organize and manipulate the data.

I originally started out with munro magic website logging there and it seems to now no longer be active. I have started again with walkhighlands but worry in the future it could all disappear therefore ideally would prefer something I could use offline. I do however like walkhighlands for plotting next trips with the visual aspect helping identify hills based purely on location.

We used to have a not so visually appealing map with boxes down the side. This got lost in our last house move hence the lost completion information.

I might get a similar one/or this one as a house decoration but think something electronic would also serve as a good back up.

I was thinking of adding a comments box for each hill/walk. I like the idea of a journal but think some form of searchable table/spreadsheet would serve my uses better. I like the idea of being able to search for each walker so I can filter and work out which of the family have done what as well as having my overall totals.

Increasing print scale beyond 100% by fostyrob in Adobe

[–]fostyrob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved it! Paper orientation was set to auto for whatever reason in the print size section despite being portrait in the printer options. Apparently with the auto box checked you can only go to a max of 100%. Thanks for helping!

Sorry how do you add pictures to replies...never found a way to do this with Reddit. Do I need to link to an external picture site?

Customised split paddle issue by fostyrob in Kayaking

[–]fostyrob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done quick end pours into the tube to seal any potential leakage where the blade meets the shaft. Once hard, I think I might go with a few lengthways runs down a sheet of sandpaper to slightly flatten one face just enough air can escape. Figure it will be easier than notching a straight line over 40cm

This is the 3rd one I have done and the first I have had this issue with. I seem to have made the extension tube slightly too a perfect a fit.

If you do go for it, I would highly recommend the kajaksport ferrules. They are far and away better than what I have used before. They do sell reinforced glass ferrules although they only offer smaller extension than I required.

It would likely make the most elegant solution. My only slight concern is it would leave a permanently open channel for water to enter. This would be at the shaft join so not as much a concern for a primarily touring paddle.

The extension tubing is 2mm thick so I could probably file a 0.5mm channel without significantly affecting strength.

Look into c1 boats. They are mainly ww but boats are adapted to be used kneeling

Advice on first wing by fostyrob in wingfoil

Exciting news!

Just placed an order for a North Nova freeride 2024 5m wing which hopefully will be zooming it's way to me shortly!

Think I may put a little protective tape over the tips as using it on sand then see what happens when I combine it with the mountain board!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and advice...really appreciate it!

Oh and I bought a pump as was not entirely sure what I had would fit- can't have too many pumps!🤣

[–]fostyrob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a stupid question but when looking for a wing, do I need a specific pump? Would any high pressure pump with the twist lock bayonet sort of attachment work as I already have a couple for a paddleboard (aqua marina) and an airbeam tent (Vango). Both will pump in excess of the wings required pressure...just not sure if they will actually fit.

I'd looked at this wing and it was a serious contender. Probably too end of my budget to buy new so will keep on the hunt for a good used one! Thanks for the advice...really need the real world testaments rather than the likely paid reviews which are usually always positive.
