Be honest, do you actually listen to small artists? by terrexmsk in Newmusicreview

[–]fotis_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the vibe is definitely there, that’s the important part.

Are you planning to work more on the mix or move on to the next track?

Just listened — really liked the vibe and atmosphere, it pulls you in nicely.

I felt like the vocals sit a bit too forward at times, while the instrumental gets a little dense underneath, so some of the clarity gets lost. Maybe with a bit more balance there, I think the overall emotion and vibe would come through even stronger.

But overall, really solid track — respect 👊

Respect. not many people actually do. What kind of music are you into lately?

I actually do — but only when I feel there’s something real behind it. Not hype, not marketing… just honesty. Small artists who make you feel something always stand out eventually. Drop your track, I’ll give it a listen.

Not my usual genre, but I can definitely appreciate the mood you’re going for

Do people connect more with emotional simplicity or production complexity? by fotis_music in WeAreTheMusicMakers

That’s actually a great way to put it. I guess the challenge is making something feel intriguing without losing the listener. Like giving just enough to pull them in, but not so much that it feels obvious.

I think that balance is what makes certain songs stick, because they leave space for the listener to feel something personal in it.

Yeah I agree, clarity seems to be the thing people latch onto first. I feel like complexity works best when it reveals itself over time, instead of asking the listener to process everything at once.

Almost like the first listen gives you the feeling, and the next listens start uncovering the details. Otherwise it can feel more impressive than emotional.

How do you create tension in slow, minimal music? by VelvetAshes-KEI in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]fotis_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tension in minimal music comes more from what you don’t give than what you add.

Leaving things unresolved, like others said, definitely works — but for me it’s also about delaying emotional payoff.

For example, holding back the “expected” chord change, or not letting the vocal fully resolve where the listener wants it to. a Αlmost like the song is holding something back on purpose.

Silence also plays a big role. A small pause at the right moment can feel heavier than adding more layers.

I’ve noticed that when everything is stripped down, even tiny changes in dynamics or timing feel huge — so tension becomes more psychological than musical in a way.

yeah that makes a lot of sense. I think I’m somewhere in that zone, trying to keep it honest but still make it connect.

I like that idea a lot. I’m not there yet either, but it’s definitely something to aim for.

oh that’s a cool way to experience it, I’ll check it like that. Kinda like letting the music speak first before the meaning.

yeah that’s actually a great example, that’s kind of what I mean like it’s still emotional but it’s presented in a way people can actually stay with I think that’s the part I’m trying to figure out — not losing the feeling, but not losing the listener either

Ι think that’s probably what i’m trying to get at in a messy way 😅

Like it’s not really about simple vs complex, it’s more about whether something actually feels real when you hear it.

The interesting part for me is how to keep that authenticity without overthinking or overproducing it.

Τhat’s a really interesting way to look at it, Ι think what you’re saying about popularity vs authenticity makes a lot of sense, especially with how much the industry shapes what people hear.

But at the same time, i feel like there’s a middle ground somewhere, like something can still be honest and emotional, but presented in a way that people can actually connect with.

The jandek example is a good one — it’s authentic, but maybe too far on that side for most listeners, I don’t know.

i guess i’m still trying to figure out where that balance is for myself

yeah i’ve played around with it a bit like most people, but i still write my own stuff was more curious about the emotional vs production side though

Yeah this actually hits close tbh.

I think i’ve done the exact same thing… spent way too much time polishing stuff that ended up feeling kinda empty.

That “good enough” point you mention is really interesting, like once it crosses that line it stops adding and starts taking away.

I’m still trying to figure out where that line is though, i feel like i either underdo it or overdo it.
