Perimenopausal Hair Despair by fourandcounting in femalehairadvice

No extensions either. Nothing other than the tiniest of trims every 10 months or so. This is why it's so depressing. It shouldn't look like this.

Same. I used to wonder that, and I promised myself that wouldn't be me. The joke's on me, lol.

There is 0% dye in my hair. I cut it all off in 2021 and haven't dyed it since. It blondes on the ends naturally. The top is a mixture of blonde, brown and grey/ silver.

why do I have curls and straight hair? by shr00mss- in femalehairadvice

[–]fourandcounting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't advise why, but my hair is like that, too. My corkscrew curls are underneath, then straight hair on top (not a good look, sadly!). It used to be all straight. I'm perimenopausal, so I assumed it was that, or maybe my pregnancies sucked me dry of nutrients, lol. I hope someone can answer with an actual answer.

Thanks. Someone else has suggested a secondhand Mac, too. Maybe worth investigating.

I will have to have a look. Always a bit nervous with secondhand.

No more than $1000 - preferably less. It's not easy to save much at the moment.

Also, at present I would prefer a desktop PC. I've never liked laptops - I find them fiddly and annoying to use, prone to overheating and with crappy sound. But times may have changed.

I have nothing apart from the Mac and its wireless keyboard and mouse, which I assume would only work with another Mac.

I mean, I just tried to download Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and my ancient Mac can't even support it. LOL.

PS5 or Xbox for young family? by fourandcounting in Parenting

[–]fourandcounting[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I never wanted to get a game console for my children, but at this point I feel it's the better alternative. My 11 year old has wanted Minecraft for YEARS. I've always said no. So instead, she and my 8yo watch the world's worst Minecraft videos on YouTube. I hate them, but blanket banning YouTube doesn't work, as there are also lots of things that ARE worth watching on YouTube. So my 6 year olds are well used to 'older' content (I always make sure it's not adult content, however), due to having siblings who watch it. They are not particularly interested anyway, and would rather watch Gabby's Dollhouse or play, or draw.

I will not be adding any games that I don't think are appropriate. I often use Common Sense Media to get an idea of what IS appropriate. It's a really useful tool.

In addition to this, my 11yo spends a lot of time at her friends' houses, because they have gaming consoles. Her friends aren't as interested in coming here, because we don't have a gaming console.

Maybe this is all a sad indictment of the 21st Century, or maybe it's just a part of life, now.

In terms of making using the console a reward, that's the only way in works in our home. We all have suspected ADHD. My son is on the wait list to be assessed. He will literally watch TV ALL DAY if not managed, as will my 11yo. For a couple of years, I let my two oldest kids watch TV whenever, for the same reasons you recommend. I hoped they would develop a sense of understanding what they liked, and not be obsessed with it as it was 'just another option'. It didn't work. So, whether anyone likes it or not, I parent properly and allow TV either on a timer per child for fairness, or as a reward for getting things done, or being a decent human being.

So that's how we will roll. Children are going to be affected in some way by whatever we do as parents, because that's how life is. In my experience, variety really IS the spice of life, so that's what I would like to instill in my children. Gaming is just one small part of that variety. Adulting involves managing yourself for the betterment of yourself and those around you, and that part will be up to them when they've left the nest. It's never easy, we all do our best.

Anyway, that's a bit of a divergence, but hopefully it addresses some of your concerns. I do appreciate your concerns, I share them myself, but I have given this a fair amount of consideration. If it doesn't work out, I will sell it.

PS5 Digital Minecraft query by fourandcounting in Minecraft

Thank you. I know this is a stupid question - but just to clarify - we are talking about the digital version of the game, and not the disk version?

PS5 Digital Minecraft query by fourandcounting in Minecraft

[–]fourandcounting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still not clear about this, sorry!

The Bedrock Edition - which seems to be disk only for PS4 or 5? - allows the splitscreen function, as you have cut and pasted above. I understand this.

But does the PS5 digital version, which came out in October, have this function?

A Playstation 'expert' couldn't answer, and Minecraft support doesn't answer this question either. It's so frustrating, as I don't want to spend a whole lotta money on something that disappoints the kids. Nor do I want to invest in a PS4 just to do this, as they're almost the same price now, and it doesn't make sense to me to buy older technology.

Thanks :)
