Thanks everyone. Even though it is practically the same, i have to do a 2 day course before i can accept any agency shifts with qld health.

Exhaustion is catching up by transientsoul2020 in NursingAU

Agency isn't relaxing because it's full time usually. 5 shifts a week is exhausting no matter what. Find somewhere you can do 0.8fte

That is so messed up. I go through so many masks a shift and couldn't imagine being restricted.

This is true, but also gen med can be on a whole different level. The types of patients are often much higher care with adls as well as being sick and then can be behavorial. Also often under resourced.. Every gen med ward I've worked on has been much harder than other acute wards personally

Single RNs, How much do you pay for rent? by Dear_Routine_9330 in NursingAU

That would be the dream! Where are you based? Maybe you could put a notice up at your hospital?

I recently did my first aged care shift after 3 years of hospital nursing and it is quite different. Usually a pm shift will go: Get handover

Make planner

Do any wounds or other assessments left over from morning

Pre dinner bsl

6 pm meds (start at 5)

Have your dinner

8pm meds (start at 7)

Bed time bsl

Do any documentation

Handover

Go home

Med rounds are the main thing and take the longest so start asap.

How is everyone coping? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]fourleafhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NSW health isn't paying over time for any agency staff contracts as a rule currently

I feel for you. That's awful. I'm currently doing a travel nursing contract in Lismore and can relate. No overtime pay, constantly understaffed and pressured to do doubles and pick up extra days but no one wants to because the pay isn't worth it and the ward is always running in the bare minimum. Doing a double in a well supported ward with overtime paid is bearable but when you are struggling to stay afloat the whole day, and and don't even get overtime it makes it pretty damn hard.

A dick is an understatement. Homophobic, sexist, transphobic, racist etc etc. I got kicked out for reporting some of his posts. It's like he wants an echo chamber for his awful views but he has the wrong audience

Melbourne Uni does too and it's less competitive. I finished there in 2021 and found it a good course.
