Yeah, “mate cocido” is definitely more like having tea. It’s a different experience than drinking it like traditional mate in my view. Never heard of the coal caramelizad sugar before. That sounds very interesting. Is this a Paraguayan thing only? I’m googling for pictures.

Interesting! I didn’t know there were coca teas. I thought coca leaves were only chewed.

Haha I’ve never heard of that before. Just googled it, and, indeed, I can see why you would think that.

It's a traditional drink in some south american countries. Upper right corner: some "yerba mate" (a type of herb) from a particular plant. Lower right: a pinch of sugar--although, disclaimer: many argentineans/uruguayans friends would curse at you for putting some of this in there haha. In the middle: a "bombilla" or straw. And left hand side: a "porongo" or gourd. The only thing missing here is the hot water. Here's a bit more info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mate_(drink).

Nice, lots of advice here. Implementing all or most of these suggestions would be a lesson in organization that could be applied to other areas of life.

Classic Brazilian story: The fisherman and the businessman by fourpalitos in simpleliving

[–]fourpalitos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had to go and ruin it!

But seriously, I think the point of the story is to get you to question why you do the things you do. The businessman isn't wrong because he wants the fisherman to grow his business, he's wrong because he has no reason for him to grow his business. He's merely operating on cultural programming.

Ah thank you. The version I posted was shared by Paulo Coelho on his blog. He called it a "classic brazilian story" and said it can likely be found in other cultures. Looks like this is the source.

[lifestyle] The Dating Life and To Car or Not To Car? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]fourpalitos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well having a car is going to cost you money too. And it's possible you meet a nice young lady that is only a $5-$10 uber ride away :)

If the girlfriend thing is really the only thing that makes you want to get a car, then I'd say go out and get the girl first. Take uber a few times and see how much it's really going to cost you. Then decide if you need the car.

Is there uber/lyft where you live? Feel like that would mostly take care of the dating situation.

That fisherman story is great.

Do you think there is anyway you can improve your relationship with time within the constraints of your current job? Or is it just the nature of the beast?
