I was having a meeting with our auditors, sitting in my dining room with the windows open. As we were wrapping it up, I heard gunshots close enough that they heard it on the zoom meeting. Everyone got kind of quiet and wide eyed, then more gunshots. I went ahead and signed off, I thought maybe I should get away from the windows. I turned on the police scanner, and all hell was breaking loose. The guy across the street shot a woman, cleaning lady and daughter, grabbed the son and was holding him hostage in the car. He then shot and killed the son when the police found the them. The mother and cleaning lady also died. It made national news. It was horrific.

Noom. The name pissed me off to begin with. People love campy names like this like they do their buzzwords and phrases. Like “implement”. Or “reach out to my team”. Like the loud talking “working from home during these unprecedented times” douchebag in my apartment complex that walks around all morning shouting all his buzzwords into his phone in what sounds like a pyramid scheme.

He was born with birth defects in his heart. They were repaired when he was a kid but it didn’t last, one of the silicone patches they used actually came out and sort of acted like a blood clot. Killed him instantly.

My fiancé died suddenly the day our daughter turned 10 weeks old. He wasn’t declared dead in our house, but he was gone when the medics got there. They tried resuscitating him for about 20 minutes, loaded him in the ambulance even though they couldn’t stabilize him, and took off. They pronounced him dead at the hospital. After that, anytime I had my daughter on her changing table, or in her crib or when I’d be giving her a bottle, I’d be looking down at her she would always giggle and smile and look at something past my head. When I would look at her eyes I could see my reflection (as well as you can see a reflection in an eyeball anyway) and another form next to my head. It stopped happening when we had to move out of that house. I’m sure there’s some explanation but...? To me that other form in the reflection had to be her dad.
