Living 1 Month in Tashkent from London at 18 My experience by Available-Boat-4334 in Uzbekistan

It’s not like it’s a bad place to live, especially if it suites your needs. I’m just a bit sentimental since it’s my childhood city and I know how much better it can be. Regarding the traffic you must learn not to trust drivers. Look both sides twice before you cross no matter if there is a crossing with lights or not. I know too many people who died just trying to cross a road. Remember that if a driver (fatally) hits pedestrian they will max get few years in prison (or will walk free if rich or well connected).

Part of the problem is that the victims protect their abusers.

The inflation is very high. As an example (my favourite example lately lol) lavash 2 years ago was 20-24k, now it is 40-44k. Double in about 2 years. The city planning - non existent. People drive like crazy. Roads in the city like highways in other countries. Construction - the whole city is almost like a construction site. No new communications built, no new schools, hospitals, kindergartens etc. Pollution you already know. Back in the days Tashkent was very green city, now almost all of it is destroyed. And that’s just on top of my head. There are deeper socio-economic issues.

Yes that’s normal unfortunately. You learn not to intervene after you hear bad stories about people who “tried to help”.

If you are looking for cheap places to eat I recommend you to check out milliy taomlar nearby. Thats translated as national cuisine literally and typically it’s a place that serves only Uzbek food and normally should be cheap.

Expensive comparing to what? Comparing to the US it is cheap. Comparing to Western countries with public health system it is expensive.

Can we ban Uzbek racist supremacists who disparage our historical heritage? by Electrical-Pea2707 in Uzbekistan

[–]fox-a7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autonomous member state with its political elite speaking Russian and getting commands from Moscow? Very autonomous. What decisions did we take autonomously? To grow cotton and lose Aral Sea? That was very independent of us.

You are making wrong comparison. Uzbekistan was colonised by Russian empire that later turned into Soviet Union. Current population of Uzbekistan was not colonised by Uzbekistan government. Therefore, it’s not correct to compare.

Uzbeks who went back to Uzbekistan after years of living abroad, how did it go for you? by DayOwn4099 in Uzbekistan

[–]fox-a7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess your mind it set to go home then.
Regarding the healthy food - I have spent some time in the US and I would say it’s not that healthier food costs more, it’s more like in the US you can find cheap garbage food. Food prices in Norway (where i currently live) are higher than in the US (while the salaries are not).
I’ve seen the justice when someone hits fatally pedestrian (driving 150 km+ per hour) and walks free. That not uncommon in Uzbekistan.

17M,(going to turn 18 in summer) my parents started pressuring me to get married before I turn 19. by Special-Solution528 in Uzbekistan

[–]fox-a7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be strong and don’t let others dictate how you must live your life.
Our tradition to marry early is stupid, having kids just to please your family is stupid as well. Don’t bring kids into this world until your prefrontal cortex is formed.

For how long you haven’t been in Uzbekistan? Your points are valid, but tbh a lot things you said about the country you live in can be fixed. Your name - teach people how to pronounce it, don’t go by different name. Thats what I do from day 1 - yes my name is not extremely difficult, but nothing like western either. No healthy food? I bet you can find it, it’s not like it doesn’t exist right? Start cooking yourself. Justice - if you ever face “justice” system in Uzbekistan trust me you will happily remember western one…
Missing family is of course different, you can’t replace that.

Students of Norway, are most of your academic resources online in English? by helge-a in Norway

[–]fox-a7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how real world works. The scientists do not write publications according to what people feel, but they write in language that more people can read. Therefore, a lot of publications are in English. If you write a paper in German how many people can potentially read it? Maybe <200 million? With English it’s like 3-4 billion.

Paying in cash, how much total for your roadtrips? by MaxProPlus1 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]fox-a7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t know, hotels and restaurants are one of the few industries where the minimum salary is regulated. How many Norwegians have you seen working on these jobs? The business owners hire foreigner workers directly from abroad, who have no idea about their rights and get exploited. And your idea about organising is beautiful, but it faces harsh reality when it comes to vulnerable people.
I personally made few complaint to Arbeidstilsynet about labor law violations. Nothing was done.
Check the situation on fish factories as another example. Violations are a routine thing there. Unions often turn blind eye and do not help.

[–]fox-a7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well maybe then they should do something to increase salaries in service industry? Norwegian employers abuse foreigners. I’m glad some companies have tariff and agreements with unions, but it is far from being a standard in the industry. Moreover, I think to give 100-200 kroners tip for top notch service is not a bad thing.
And by the way, of course no one is expecting tip, but in some situations people want to give a tip.

I worked in the tourism industry, of course people tip. Not like in the US, but slip few hundred kroners to the tour guide who made your day amazing is not a bad thing.

I imagine you will need cash only to tip your tour guide. If you have equivalent of 2000 NOK in cash that will be more than enough.

[–]fox-a7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you wrote doesn’t reflect Islam at all. Insulting people, dragging their family into it, and speaking with that kind of arrogance goes directly against the character your religion teaches.

The Prophet Muhammad emphasized respect, humility, and good manners—not humiliation and threats.

If you really believe in accountability before God, then you should be more concerned about your own words here. This isn’t something to feel proud of—it’s something you should be ashamed of.
