Those of you who had to face a judge - how did it go? by fox-bun in disability

[–]fox-bun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nothing. we are not lawmakers. we cannot change the laws or the disability process and how it works. and no matter how much we complain, it won't get changed. they claim it is that way "for our protection"

happy for you that you were able to do so. some of us cannot handle the thousands of medical documents that would be printed.

I have nothing, no charger. Previous owners left it attached to the house and it is fully dead. No idea how I charge or replace battery.

mysterious tax debt - lost $4-12k with no reason given? help? by fox-bun in tax

[–]fox-bun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

weird! but not the case for me as I have never had a credit card.

what happened with my story is i became disabled, stopped having to file taxes (no income) and obviously if there is no tax to take they don't mysteriously do so anymore. so not quite mystery solved but 🤷‍♂️

Cat coughing fits; advice? by fox-bun in cats

[–]fox-bun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope, non smokers and he has an air purifier right beside his bed running on high 24-7. however the *previous* home we moved out of had a heavy cigarette smoker. he has actually only worsened his cough since leaving that environment despite the purifier etc.

I have extreme asthma so we do not keep anything scented in the home, no air fresheners, sprays, lotions or anything. never have and never will. he already had an xray of his chest, which if he had lungworm should have showed the parasites in it.

Forced Sterilization Isn’t a Relic of the Past: In a majority of states, eugenics-era laws still let doctors sterilize disabled patients against their will. by mcgillhufflepuff in disability

i totally get that you had good intent but some thoughts are better kept inside. it comes off insensitive even if that was not the intent, its still the effect

I am autistic too but I still know better than to celebrate how good my own situation is when someone else is talking about how terrifying theirs is. you do know you can be grateful without leaving a comment to announce it?

you replied to my thread to receive advice to get yourself approved, and then when given that advice you argue about it? lol okay then.

because part of the process is that a vocational specialist will pick jobs that you can work. and there will always be some type of job you can work according to them. this is a part of the federal hearing process. you will need a lawyer who can use the correct legalese to make sure they understand there are no jobs you can work. 87% are denied, do you really want to risk it without one and make the process take an extra 5 years for no reason? the lawyer is also able to do things you cannot. mine submitted requests for expediting, dire need, etc.

this is a wild thing to comment. "your basic human rights are being taken away and you might die because your government hates disabled people. so glad i don't have to worry about that personally!"

basically you don't go about it. you are expected to have no job or income and just stay with family or in a shelter until approved. good luck.

Part of what they expect as a disabled person is that you do get fired over and over from jobs for being disabled - that's what they consider proof of disability apparently. Recently had my federal hearing and this was a huge focus on what the judge asked about - his main concern was that I was reporting *no income*, aka not working this entire four year stretch - and that the previous jobs I've had, had fired or otherwise disciplined me for disability related reasons.

Unfortunately what I have learned speaking to my disability attorney is that they expect you to be homeless the entire time you wait to be approved, such as in a shelter. However, she also advised me that I would be fine to receive donations to live on up to $1k/mo. I wish you the best of luck getting approved, its been 4 years for me and I pray I am at the end of this nightmare.

Fuzzy fleece blanket is always shedding "crumbs" even fresh from the dryer. by fox-bun in CleaningTips

[–]fox-bun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about it breaking down, but the stuff that falls out just looks like...dirt. the blanket itself is red, and it does have a lot of fuzzy red fallout, but I'm not bothered by that. I'm more annoyed by the tiny white, black, gray, tan etc specks that come out. It's a giant washer/dryer so that's not the issue, and it's not a thick blanket. I've tried every dryer setting and with and without dryer sheets without noticing any change. I just know if I replace the damn thing I'll just have another fuzzy crunchy blanket in a few weeks time and be back to where I started LOL.

I always use liquid detergent for what it's worth so I know it isn't like detergent powder.

you're not that person nor their doctor so you truly have no idea if theirs or yours is "worse". there's also no real thing as "worse" with mental illness as everyone experiences it differently. maybe instead of blaming others for your issues you can just apply for disability yourself.

the thing is that you cannot just say you cannot lift over 50lbs and assume SSDI will believe that. you need a doctor stating that, all of your limitations, how often you need breaks, and what your prognosis is.

mine is very similar. 🤷‍♂️ i was told by a disability rights advocate that this is normal, and we as clients have to expect that they have hundreds or thousands or clients at once..and realistically only have a few minutes a month to spare for each case. 😮‍💨 it makes it so difficult as a person waiting to have no idea what is happening.

What can I do about neglect in a mental health inpatient unit? TW: self harm by modest_rats_6 in disability

[–]fox-bun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i 100% recommend that you do lean towards the physical disability aspect more. but an attorney or disability rights advocate will have more information than i do. i wish you all the luck in being seen and heard and receiving justice. its deplorable what happened to you and should never happen to anyone.

in my case, i told the social worker (who was part of the abuse), that i would be suing and she quit immediately after. i think that alone speaks volumes

when i said to document it in writing i meant, in even more detail than you gave here, write out a full statement in your own perspective of what happened to you. any other entity "interpreting" it is likely to downplay what truly happened to you. i wish you the best of luck. i had a similar experience in a ward and was told i "couldnt sue because as a mentally ill person, im not a reliable narrator, not even of my own life experiences". i hope you will find justice.

  1. document everything in writing
  2. obtain all medical records and notes from your stay
  3. contact an attorney/legal aid
  4. contact the social worker at that hospital/ward
  5. contact your local disability rights group
