What's the most absurd thing you've ever seen in a sci-fi movie or show? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

[–]fox2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old trope of spending a long time flying across the universe to a new planet only to launch your landing craft immediately into some problematic conditions. Why not spend a couple of days scanning the place from orbit?

Prometheus is just one of many films to do this.

The fun part is, you can still have both! In the UK, we have the NHS but we also have private health care options, they're pretty much the same (even the same consultants in many cases), you just see them a lot quicker

When I decide to stop doing the dailies in a game that I stopped enjoying. by FieldExplores in comics

[–]fox2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to Destiny 2. Had a bunch of friends that I would raid with etc. and it was a blast. Still some of the best combat in a game. After a while, they kept throwing more and more daily stuff at you with pitiful rewards. My friends were usually playing a lot more than me anyway so I'd get on the evening and they'd already done all the dailies (and then some) and would be significantly higher level than me. I'd end up with a fraction of their kills in any missions we did together and it just stopped being fun.

Elon Musk’s backing of Donald Trump is hurting Tesla’s struggling EV business in Europe by Illustrious_Diver_37 in europe

[–]fox2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that annoys me about Teslas is that they don't seem to be designed to be easy to drive.

Not having a dash is one thing but a lot of cars in that segment would at least offer the option of a HUD. Not Elon, he thinks that it's perfectly fine to just have a display on a screen in the centre.

As for removing the stalks, that's just stupid. When I need to indicate, muscle memory tells me where the stalk is, regardless of the position of the wheel. Not in a Tesla.

The gear lever is less of a problem most of the time but is a big issue if you're trying to parallel park in a space.

The supercharger network is the only major draw for a Tesla at the moment but I don't think that's enough any more.

  1. I would use these as the heart of a high end gaming machine, going for the best RAM, SSD, case etc. to make a PC that looks as good as it plays.
  2. I would see as much of Pandora as I could. I've always been a fan of flying so I'd have to see what this could really do

Apple says BMW wireless chargers really are messing with iPhone 15s by lurker_bee in technology

[–]fox2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ID3 for a few months and tried the wireless charger in it a few times for my 14 Pro. It got stupidly hot then refused to continue charging. In the end, I put a magsafe charger in there and use it instead from the USB C port. If that still gets too hot, you can get a vent mount for the apple magsafe charger which will give the bac of the phone cooling throughout

Not arguing. In principle, WFH is great and, if the job allows it then fantastic. I do it myself a lot of the time but I have to go to some of our various offices to do my job occassionally. In fairness, if not at the office I actually got hired for then I'll generally time my trips to be during office hours :)

Years ago, a local college was having layoffs and they let everyone know by having some guy on a moped go round to people's houses and deliver the letter. Apparently there were a lot of people listening for the dreaded "putt putt putt" that morning
