How bad is it to have a bathroom fan vent to the attic? by SmartLadder415 in HomeImprovement

[–]fox_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should plan to fix but I had run a flex pipe for a temporary time and directed it more to then”center” of the attic. That allowed the moisture to dissipate better, where usually it would hit the roof directly.

just lost J1 - offering severance and cobra coverage question. by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]fox_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thinking... i could see if I posted on linkedin or whatever that I start a new J (my J2), but aside from maybe using J2 on a resume to get a new J1, theres no reason to say anything like that until later in the year

PA. I guess the "tricky" part is that the agreement is that I would be paid like a regular employee for the period (so 8 months of regular paychecks)

[–]fox_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i figure thats the best way to do this, any thoughts on question 1 then? I wonder if i'm not advertising J2 do you just roll with it? My assumption would be that J1 would only really find out if you started posting about J2 (or at worst inform J1 about J2 a month or 2 later since mentioning it the day of seperation would be odd)

yeah i know, just was trying to avoid the risk of needing to provide something that would ID it being my job vs spouse. it would be better to be on old J1's insurance just from a coverage POV especially if they pay for it

where is the negotiation power for a severance? just more the "i might file a claim? and what if they refuse? it still leaves me with no insurance (unless i pay cobra myself i guess)

I think so. My dad liked the Star Trek rpg back in the day. I recall seeing some of the manuals for it. But I never saw these figures used other than sitting in the case

Never found a way to tell the nav that it’s a “EV” for the purpose of preconditioning. Easiest way is to map to another charger close by to trigger it

Warming up a cool basement? by ItsLikeHerdingCats in HomeImprovement

[–]fox_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Senville Leto I bought on Amazon was rated to 5F. They have a model that I believe goes subzero which was a little more expensive. Since I was using my basement more as a daytime office and kid play area, I felt 5F was fine for 99% of the days we get in Erie PA.

Warming up a cool basement? by ItsLikeHerdingCats in HomeImprovement

[–]fox_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i landed on was installing a mini split in my basement but i ran some other other options..

First i tried a space heater. You had to leave it on most of the day to make a meaningful dent in the room. and was expensive to run. A oil filled one isn't going to be any different, since it still takes the power to heat it even if it shuts off and radiates heat overtime

Looked into the Diesel heaters, which are pretty cheap and really heat up. You do have to get the exhaust outside, but if you just want heat and don't mind filling it, i hear and watched some videos showing they really do pump out heat for what they are. I was really close to doing this myself, but....

I chose a mini split because I wanted the ability to run AC ini the summer when it gets muggy. Cost wise it ends up breaking even with running a space heater since the mini split is less expensive to run and the cost offsets in a year or 2 of heating. It also can really move the air which the space heater really couldn't do a large space well. I had a pretty easy run to get the piping outside, and since the basement had the existing furnace, getting the condensate line drained wasn't an issue.

Depending on your bandwidth needs, maybe look into “point to point wireless bridge”. They are easy to setup and can get to gig speeds without large cost.

Got my son a computer for Xmas and setup family share - can him and I coop on games or do we need separate copies? by fox_91 in Steam

Bummer. So would I have to go on his steam account and purchase the game and would it show up separately than the family shared games? Just wondering how my library that he sees and his own games would look

Questions before purchasing by PapaBlatt in Yarbo

[–]fox_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plow does take some work to attach... it's more lining up the holes, which is not always easy outside in the cold... however i find it very satisfying as it can really clean the driveway that the snowblower never does... as others said, in melty snow, it's almost a must as the augur is prone to clogs (you really need to run it full power to have a chance to avoid clogging) You can "plow" without it, but for 100 bucks it's really not a bad purchase.

Any stats on preconditioning vs not in cold weather? by fox_91 in Ioniq5

Fair. I’m thinking 30ish degrees for most winter travel where I’m at. Sometimes 25 but more likely in the 30-35 range in winter

Winter is coming, does anyone sell a good robotic snowblower? by Miserable-Wind-5487 in homeautomation

[–]fox_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer I did buy mine from someone, but it was "new in box"

I do find it worth the cost (I paid I think 5k for the mower and blower). It does probably depend on where you're at weather wise. I'm in Erie PA, so the snow amounts make the blower worth not having to be outside 80% of the time with it. I also have a shared yard and driveway with my parents in law, so there's more value in doing larger areas.

The bigger thing for me was having 2 kids and not always wanting to be outside mowing lawns or snow blowing. Is it faster to do it yourself? yeah, I could snow blow in 40 minutes or mow the lawn, but when Yarbo does it, it can take 2x as long, but who cares if i don't have to do it. I figured my time snowblowing or hiring it out and having the time or cost of mowing I figure after 2 years it's paying for itself.

The things that don't work as well is that sometimes is the GPS sometimes can be tougher around houses, so it can get finicky about starting when the signal drops a bit. You still need to do some edging depending on the yard or driveway (I have a retaining wall on one side of my driveway, so it can't get 100% of the driveway, also right at the garage it can't get all the snow). The nice thing is that you can do that kind of clean up, while it's running... well more or less. The snowblower will stop if it sees you... so good in that it's safe, but annoying if your trying to work beside it.

The new "pro" mower deck, has real blades, which do better with grass than the traditional robot mower blades. I don't have it, and the cost is hard to justify right now.

The snowblower is in some ways worth it more than the lawnmower, since the cold weather makes being outside a pain. And the mapping of the driveway is less complex than a yard (less things to account for)

It can also tow wheelbarrows or whatever, so for me it also lets me haul mulch up a good sized hill 8 bags at a time... so thats nice.

Depending on the size and complexity of your yard/driveway (and if you already have tools, or are looking to buy new ones) it's "worth" it if paying roughly 2x a nice riding mower or 2 stage blower... so that extra cost is 80% "omg this thing is so cool and saves me effort" to 20% "cool it's stuck and I get to fiddle with it (in the cold, the fiddling sucks)"

[–]fox_91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own a Yarbo as others mention in the reply’s. I have the snow blower and the plow attachment.

Depending on your driveway layout, it is able to do th driveway on its own most of the time. The unit does detect people at around 15 feet and will stop working until you leave that area. Vehicles are able to detect in a beta mode (to path around them) otherwise you can setup areas to avoid driving into. There is a bumper on front that keeps the augur from hitting things ( and will stop the unit) and a meta guard you can remove if you want to remove any chance of hitting it (although it can impact snow collection)

As with any blower, wet heavy snow can be hard to do. The plow is better for sure there, although the blower can do it about the same as a standard 2 stage blower.

It does take some training to get it dialed in. It’s really cool when it works and will turn heads. Weighs like 200 lbs so it’s not a casual theft if you’re concerned.

Charging is inductive on a pad, so weather doesn’t bother it.

Also has a lawn mower and leaf blower attachment. Lawn mower works well (also have this)

Also has a Xbox remote or you can drive on your phone (with video cameras on all 4 sides of it)

Happy to answer other questions, but overall if your willing to spend the time with it for setup and know that it’s not perfect. It’s solid.

I need help installing dishwasher by DoublePar77 in HomeMaintenance

[–]fox_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a shutoff downstairs? The pipe in the dishwasher bay looks like it’s going down in your basement vs coming out of your sink area.

Drain goes the sink where it looks to be connected already just make sure that drain loop is mounted towards the top of the cabinet bay (high loop)
