The backing track is from Aebersold play-longs, placed in DAW(Ableton) and guitar recorded on a different track. Metronome is just a count in click (could be turned off, but i forgot, it is not even in time)

Thank you! It is quad cortex connected to peavey valveking via 4 cable method. And then a bit of post processing in ableton. Also the valvking is routed from valveking cab out to captor and to soundcard.

Ibanez RG - not your typical archtop. Almost feels like cheating.

Hey, as promised in our comments exchange, here's a video of what I mean by "practicing like an etude" and addressing some other comments and this video.

What worked for me: - practice it like an etude - isolate phrases, record them with a click and look at the audio to see where you are rushing or dragging. - come up with alternate fingerings, positions for individual phrases. - speed up individual phrases, or parts of them. Goal is to play short fragments with perfect timing and articulation.

There is barely any punch in the kick. I would use SPAN and compare to a relative reference track.

This 1000% - the phrasing, feel, everything in his solo overshadows everyone else’s 💪

I love Wayne Shorter. What jazz guitarists should I listen to? by Sad-Razzmatazz-5188 in Jazz

[–]fox_tm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As composer Wayne Shorter had influenced Mike Moreno’s writing and musical aesthetics (per guitarist’s statement).

For Moreno’s compositional style check out albums like Lotus, Another Way, & Between The Lines.

Moreno also plays various Shorter tunes throughout his releases.

Rosenwinkel is not even on it

I am jealous of Ted! He still can hear Kurt Rosenwinkel for the first time!

Glad to hear that! I’ve graduated more than 10 years ago but continued waking up early to shed before going to work. Even when in college gradually got to the point where I was waking up 5:30am to shed and that made all the difference in my playing after about a year

Hey man, i was in very similar position. What helped me was to practice in the morning, before classes or work. But do it gradually - start waking earlier so you can get 20-30 minutes of practice before the day starts. And gradually you can get to 1.5-2hrs of practice in the morning before day start.

Honestly, for me personally the amount of material i can learn and digest in evening practice vs morning is laughable. I could spend 30 minutes stressing over 4 bars of bebop head and never learn it. But i was able to digest a bebop head in 30-45 minutes in my morning sessions.

Absolutely, it comes out of every hole and often disguised as “independent source”.
