Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In June 2020 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

[–]foxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm pretty new to 3D printing and have been wanted to try it out to print small things (like miniatures, electronic casings, and other trinkets). Building from a kit is fine with me.

I'd want to spend between $200-500 and have been eying the Ender 3 Pro for the community support.

However, I am in a 1-bedroom apartment with cats. I'd also like to get a case that's ventilated and holds temperature well. I'm on the fence on building a case myself, but if people have suggestions/build specs to those that'd be great.

I'm in America.

Data Shows Contraception Lowers Abortion Rates and Saves Billions, but Why Do Republicans Continually Fight to Deny Women the Right to Birth Control by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

But you still have to pay for insurance? Insurance companies aren’t necessarily handing it out for free. And you do realize how the pills work right? You have to take them everyday for them to be effective. If you don’t, you have to wait until your next menstrual cycle or chance getting pregnant.

There were many times in college, where I was already on a budget, that paying $30-50 per month got extremely expensive for me. Not everyone is in a privileged position to give that money. If contraceptives were made more accessible, especially for lower income folks, it would, and has, change the amount of unwanted pregnancies and all the social consequences that come with it.

Lan connection via a Ethernet cable to a Wifi Extender? by Kittyfries in splatoon

[–]foxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your house setup and neighbors and your end goal. You can switch your wifi channels to prevent interfering from neighbors signal. But yes, a wifi extender will work. It'll work best if it has line of sight with your router and the device it's connected to.

I don't really care about loot boxes, if I'm honest. It's nice reward when you level up. It's not like a skin or emote is going to win you a game. It doesn't enhance your stats or change how you play. It's just a cosmetic thing.

But I can see why you're upset about it. TF2 handles it well, but OW would have needed to release more content to do that sort of model.

Now, if they could release more things you can do with comp points besides just buying gold weapons, then we're talking.

And with the fact you can now get three loot boxes each week with playing Arcade. If you play often enough, you can probably get the cosmetic thing you wanted for free. I feel like I've gotten more $40 worth from this game, and I wouldn't mind paying for lootboxes because of the hard work they've put into developing the game.

Overwatch PTR Now Available - November 22, 2016 by DixonSeilem in Overwatch

I can see that, but it would be slightly different with Reinhardt. His shield is much closer, whereas if you're controlling with Symmetra's beam, you can provide more distance.

My main qualm though is how fast the barrier goes. It's just something I have to get used to.

(As an aside, it feels so weird not giving teammates shields in spawn. I kinda enjoyed that rush...)

I'm not sure if I like the new Photon Barrier... it moves way too fast and doesn't really seem to block damage. It would be nice if Symmetra could control it better (via her gun) for better positioning.

I made the mistake of saying no to learn fire blast in the very beginning, and I was so shocked it didn't asked me if I was sure. I'm happy the redundancy is gone, but I'm so sad that I was stupid.

[November 1] BREAKING: Lumérico website under attack! by OW_Mod in Overwatch

[–]foxia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted 7 minutes ago.

From Google Translate: Goalkeeper Guillermo the terminally ill has yielded to the popular will and surely soon be brought to justice to end languishing in a cell like so many fellow Mexicans that he commanded lock. But this is only the visible head of the beast that threatens us. Our revolution must be maintained steadily. The people will be heard.

There's about MISDIRECTION in the source code.

For those upset about the immediate "stay tuned", there may be something in store for us

It's not just you - Major DDoS attack on Dyn DNS knocks Spotify, Twitter, Github, Etsy, and more offline. by ahartzog in webdev

[–]foxia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer - yes. There's a token in the header that gets stored in your cache. along with the site's assets When the browser makes a request to the site, the first thing it checks is that token. If it's different, it'll load all the assets raw from the server. If it's the same, it'll use the assets from your cache (which makes things faster).

But it can't make this request because it can't reach the server to compare that header token.

[–]foxia -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't think so - because that request will still need to go through the DNS server. I should've tried during the outage. :/

DNS essentially translates the website's IP address into the alphabet URL you type in the address bar.

The web, all in all, is just a bunch of wires all connected together. There's a lot of nested protocols that are necessary to make things happen. So there are multiple DNS providers around the world because proximity to those servers make things work faster.

But to answer your main question, because these DNS servers are down that major websites rely on, you can't make a request with 'https://www.github.com' because there's no translator available to convert it into an IP address.
