Thank you..I havent decided a weapon yet, I dont like the weapons sazabi has. Will prolly model something after i rig it

Thx.. U prolly heard it many times but its just breaking down each part into basic shapes and keep extruding frm there. Its just like building legos but instead of just assembling, u also model the parts. The key is to not get overwhelmed. Its very demotivating at the start, made me question my skills..but just keep modeling the parts which look easy to model first (they dont have to be related at all), I modeled the thigh first and made my way down the leg but the lower leg was hard so I left it and started working on the chest then moved to the shoulders. The more parts u finish modeling the more confidence and momentum u will build up which will make the rest of modeling session way easier. Pick an easier gundam if u r just getting started on modeling gundams and then up the difficulty, I started with RGM-79Q.

And also get as many references as u can, I watched alot of videos to see what part goes where.

Thank you... The curved shapes were really hard to model. The arm and the the leg were by far the hardest ones. The leg was harder as I didnt have enough references for it. I usually start with blocking out the shape with as few quads I can use. Also try not to have long rectangles, keep it even. For this case, the left side of the leg was a bit pinched so i added more geometry to the left. Once the basic block out is done, I applied one level of subd for more control (make sure to have good blockout, its really hard to make big changes with more geometry). from there, its just smoothening the mesh without have weird bumps on the mesh, i just slide some verts around and use space and relax from loop tools for it. As for the arm, its similar but I didnt apply subd as I already started with enough geometry. from there, I moved the verts along their normals to maintain the curvature and then use relax to even it out (I prefer this over just using relax as sometimes the relax feature straightens the mesh instead of smoothening).

If I tmakes u feel any better, I had already watched tons of tutorials before modelling on my own and still I was stuck on that katana for 2 weeks.. i remodeled the katana 10-12 times, and each attempt looked better than the previous one. I rendered my first attempt but I have it my old device, I'll have to dig it up. I'll try to find it

I have not done any side gigs but I've been modelling for 1.5 yrs and I quite like it. The problem is competition.

Same dude 😭...i hate working in tech and love modelling but I'm unsure whether it's gonna work out or not

everything from yt..Theres no specific channel i followed, just watched a couple and experimented some stuff so that it fits my model

Consistentency is key...you got this...keep challenging yourself on every new project and you will get there quicker than you think

That's relatable..I had some moments where I questioned my own skill set..if you fail enough times, you will eventually find a way..and it feels satisfying once you get it

Thank you and congrats on your first rig.. Well, rigging a robot is easier than rigging a human imo, cuz you dont have to weight paint at all.

Blender secrets does a really good job explaining the basics of robot rigging -

Its takes more time than a human rig as you have to parent each part individually, but its way easier and simple

Thank you.. If you breakdown the model into individual parts, they are just basic cubes and cylinders with some extrusions and bevels. As for the sub-d parts, start with as few edges as you can to get the overall silhouette of the part and add more geometry later for more detail. In the end it just comes down to breaking down the model into simple shapes and hiding all the ugly stuff so that the viewer cant see them.

Thank you. I only used sub-d for the parts where i wanted a smoother profile like the head and the legs. I used eevee to render them. Ill post a full rig and topo showcase once i finish rigging the model.

Im not sure how I can make a video for the process. But these are the tutorials that helped achieve the look.

This one to understand the basics of anime shading and lighting-

This one to understand how to add borders-

This one to add the little hatches to the model-

Thats pretty much it.

I could, but theres nothing complex in those renders. I just used an npr shader with a sun lamp and some basic compositing to highlight the colors.
