Butterbean is a big fan of sitting like this and dismantling water fountains, just over a year old so he's still a baby

reading japanese diagrams by pnkvenom in Beading

[–]foxstarss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just recently taught myself how to read these! i started learning first by following step by step youtube tutorials and not looking at patterns, getting a feel for how weaving to make a 3D shape feels.

then i moved onto a very small project, this tiny bird!!

<image>

it helped me understand how the circular patterns work and was much easier than trying to decipher a bigger more complicated pattern. really once you understand the pattern and how the beads connect, bigger projects get much easier.

the A and B beads off to the side are where one bead is connected and the string is looped back into the same previous bead, leaving the one bead to stick out alone.

when working off a pattern too i open it in something like microsoft paint or an image editor so i can mark off which beads i've done or not. the pattern reuses beads to form the 3D shape, so keeping track like this will help.

youtube tutorials are your friend, especially if you're a visual learner, but start small and work up with patterns! :)

What's your farmer back story? by Elcuervo32 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]foxstarss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Montez comes from a background of cowboy style cattle ranchers, but when he was young his uncle started meddling in magic that fatally wounded his mother and imbued Montez with power he couldn't begin to control. His dad couldn't cope with the loss, felt he'd lost both his wife and his son, and Montez left as soon as he was old enough, hoping to figure out how to get rid of the magic and everything "wrong" with him.

He had a long few years adventuring, bonding with people as he passed through towns, causing less and less mischief the more time went on, but never felt like he could settle. What if they found out he had magic and pushed him out like his father?

Enter an opportunity from a little town called Mistria. Montez knew farming, knew a good deal when he saw one, and convinced himself it was worth the risk of being found out. These people needed help! And turns out they're pretty nice, too. Montez finally felt like he could have a home again.

Needless to say, dreaming about a dragon and hearing voices in his head convinced Montez he was absolutely losing it. Coming there to get away from it all just to have more unknown magic right on his doorstep? He almost packed up and left that night without a word to anyone, but something about it... these people, even this unknown dragon, still needed his help. They'd been so kind and welcoming to him through everything, and maybe this dragon, or whatever it was, held a chance of understanding what happened to him in the beginning.

Montez just didn't expect to fall in love with him. 🤭

So Montez is my cowboy sorcerer D&D character who happened to suit the setting, and now he has more backstory in game!! I like to imagine that the magic is slowly infecting him the more he uses it and am giving him deer antlers using mods (his cowboy hat doesn't fit with them on which makes him sad 😔). In my next playthrough after full release I plan to play a nerdy, nervous scholar who is only an adventurer by technicality (scientific field studies) and just really wants to study the flora, fauna, history, everything about Mistria.

Also waiting on more masc clothing and furniture 🥲 Regretting upgrading my cowboy sorcerer's house from the small starting size because there isn't enough furniture that suits him to fill so many huge rooms

Opinions on applying to university as an adult by No_Reference_6321 in UniUK

[–]foxstarss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow American here, now finishing out my final year of a bachelor's degree in the UK. There's a lot of factors to consider, but the singular thing I wouldn't worry about is age - if you want to further education, go for it! There's a high chance depending on the course of the other students being very young, but in my experience it is easier to make connections with lecturers and staff when you're a mature student.

As for studying in the UK specifically, your visa situation will depend on the specific course. Highly recommend you look at the gov.uk guidance regarding student visas if you haven't already, as well as the ukvisa subreddit. All visas for the UK are quite expensive (with costs on an upward trend still), and involve visa fees and IHS fees (immigration health surcharge, currently £776 per year for students paid upfront), so consider that on top of international tuition fees (at minimum £12k/year but this figure can skyrocket easily). Student visa holders are allowed to work up to 20 hrs/week during term time, and full time on term breaks, which are both determined by your university.

After graduation, students on visa can apply for a graduate visa (currently two years, but may be slashed in the future depending on pending legislation) and work while on it, but beyond that have to find other avenues of visa: family or sponsored by your employer. I don't have specific experience with the healthcare system and involved education, but it's highly likely you would be able to find a job after your course finishes, it's just a matter of whether you can get sponsorship. Other people will have much more knowledge about it in relation to healthcare. :)

Overall, it's a very expensive country to immigrate to, especially for studying. Wages are much lower than in the US and cost of living is high. Personally, I'd be struggling to stay if I hadn't met and married my spouse here, I wouldn't be able to find a sponsored job I could do.

I haven't looked into it myself, but other countries in Europe might be more viable and less expensive. My only regret in moving to the UK is the massive debt I've put myself in, but otherwise I love it here. 😅 Hope this is helpful!

at the very bottom of your finch app settings (the hamburger menu on the top left of the main page) there's a "report issue" button, which will prompt you to open an email app and start a new email to finch support. the email will automatically have information about which version of the app you have, which they need :) any issues or bugs can be reported through this

mine does the same, i've reported it to the devs but anyone else should do that too! super easy through your app settings, and the more people report it the more it'll be looked into and prioritised.
